【One Piece】Dawn in the Darkness

Chapter 394 Fear

Chapter 394 Fear

When the cell door was slammed open with a loud bang, Ace refused to look up. He ignored the uneven footsteps coming from the cell. Ever since Garp came, he no longer tried to ask the guards for news about Lucci, but that was at least a few days ago. In this cold and dark cell, Ace was not sure how much time had passed. Time had lost all meaning. The only thing he knew now was that he needed new information.

The chains clashed loudly, and a figure was forced to sit down, groaning in pain. The guards tied him up, and the jailer hit the prisoner's head with a stick.

Only after confirming the footsteps had left did Ace open his eyes. He refused to give the guards any reaction, not wanting to satisfy them. As the footsteps faded away, Ace glanced at his friend, his voice hoarse. This was to be expected, they didn't have enough water, and Jinbe needed it more than Ace. "Brother, are you okay?"

"It doesn't hurt at all," Jinbei replied gruffly.

Ace glanced at Jinbe, certainly not believing him, the blue whale shark looked rather grumpy, which he could understand, considering their predicament, not only was he short of water, but he also had more cuts and bruises than when he'd been dragged out of the cell an hour ago, but Ace didn't call out his friend's obvious lie.

"What do they want this time?" Ace tilted his head back, trying not to show any pain on his face because of this action.

"They're really curious about Dad's movements," Jinbei said gruffly. "They're nervous. They don't know what Dad is doing."

"The navy doesn't understand. Just because he's the pirate boss doesn't mean they can just defeat him. If that man dies, the ocean will be in chaos again! The government knows this. I want to stop this war even if I die. I want to rescue you, Mr. Ace."

"Jinbei, forget it. This will only increase your pain." Ace lowered his head and said in a low voice.

"I haven't given up hope yet. I still firmly believe that miracles and opportunities will appear." Jinbei said calmly, and then the two fell silent again. This is what they have always done.

There was no telling how long the silence lasted before the sound of the elevator arriving interrupted Ace's thoughts.

The footsteps gradually approached their cells, and the prisoners on the sixth underground floor suddenly became excited, with people whistling, laughing and shouting obscenely.

Ace and Jinbe looked at each other in confusion, both frowning at the sudden volume. This was the loudest noise Ace had heard since arriving at the sixth-floor cell. He had almost forgotten that there were many pirates on the sixth floor who were as notorious as him. They had remained silent like them before. After all, the meager rations were only enough to maintain basic life, and they had no extra energy for making noise.

Ace looked up, his sharp eyes sweeping over Magellan, Deputy Warden Hannibal, and the guards behind them, and finally landing on the tall woman and the white snake behind her. This was new.

"Boa Hancock!?" Jinbei spoke, staring at the woman at the cell door in disbelief. Why was the Pirate Empress, the most aloof of the Seven Warlords, here? She had never attended any of the World Government's meetings for the Seven Warlords.

Jinbei frowned and looked at the handcuffs on Boa Hancock's wrists in confusion. Why was she in the most airtight prison in the world? Jinbei really couldn't figure out her reason for being here, so he turned his attention to Hancock herself.

Ace looked up at the tall woman standing across from him, ignoring the obscene taunts coming from the other cells, and frowned as he asked, "What do you want from me?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to meet you and see what the person who dragged me into this war looks like..."

Ace rested his head on his chest, no longer interested, and replied tiredly, "I'm really being treated like a monkey."

"The Empress, who has always been as determined as a mountain and had no intention of responding to the government's call, obeys the government at this time. Is she reluctant to give up the title of Shichibukai!?" Jinbei glared at Hancock, angry that she just came here to watch Ace as a simple commodity.

"Are you Jinbe? Don't be so aggressive..." Hancock didn't get angry, but turned to look at Magellan and asked, "I heard that another Whitebeard pirate was also captured... I don't seem to see him here."

"Oh, Warden, let me tell you, he's not here," Hannibal replied immediately.

Magellan hit Hannibal on the head with his hand "What are you doing?"

"it hurts!"

"I'm so sorry, Your Highness Hancock, he is not within our visiting range." Magellan said attentively.

Hancock said nothing more. She turned to the prisoners, feigning fear, letting their cheers fill the prison. Ignoring Magellan's attack on the prisoners, Hancock approached Ace, staring into his eyes. Before the chaotic laughter and screams of pain behind her could drown out her voice, she spoke her message. Her voice was low, but loud enough for Ace to hear: "Fire Fist."

Ace paid no attention to the chaos, his full attention focused on the woman approaching him, she seemed to want to say something to him as all her movements were designed to make the rest of the prison ignore them.

"Your brother is in Impel Down."

Ace frowned as he listened to her say this in a low voice, confusion on his face, thinking she was talking about Lucci "I know, he was arrested with me."

"It's not him, it's Luffy."

Ace's heart stopped beating and all the blood in his body froze. He looked at her in horror, unable to make any sound.

Jinbe watched as Hancock turned to the crowd and said something that caused the prison to be filled with cheers. Even Magellan instantly reacted to Hancock's actions and began to attack the prisoners, which successfully silenced the prisoners. After Magellan finished taking care of the prisoners, he faced them again.

So he turned his attention back to Hancock, wondering if she had anything to say to Ace. However, Jinbe only heard Hancock say that her visit was over. He remembered that Hancock wanted to say something to Ace before causing the chaos, but why did she leave without saying anything now?

Jinbei looked at Ace in confusion, trying to seek an answer from him, but was surprised to find that Ace's expression was completely frozen, his face was extremely pale, and there was pure fear in his eyes. Jinbei had never seen Ace with such a frightened expression.

Ace suddenly exploded and yelled at Hancock who was struggling to leave, "Hey! Are you telling the truth?!"

Hancock turned slightly, her head slightly tilted as she replied, "I have no reason to lie..." Then she seemed to have thought of something and turned her head completely around with a soft smile on her face. Jinbe swore that even he, a fellow Shichibukai, had never seen such an expression on her face.

"Goodbye then... He's worried about making you two angry!" Hancock said and turned to leave.

Jinbei looked at Hancock's departing back in confusion. Magellan and Hannibal followed her like puppies. Jinbei turned to look at Ace in confusion and found that he was still staring at the cell door with a stiff expression. "Mr. Ace, what did that woman just say?"

Ace's head dropped to his chest, a deep fear spreading through his body. "She said my brother... is here..."

Jinbei looked at Ace, his expression completely frozen, a look of shock on his face. "Is that the Straw Hat kid you talked about so much? That's outrageous!"

Ace closed his eyes in despair. Now my two brothers are here just to save me.
