Chapter 416 Worry
Chapter 416 Worry
Lucci remained silent. He couldn't help but worry, especially when he saw Luffy lying with a pale face among the instruments. It was painful. He knew that Luffy would eventually get better and would wake up full of energy again, but at this moment he couldn't control himself from being afraid. As soon as he closed his eyes, his mind was filled with Luffy's painful look. He even couldn't help but doubt whether Luffy was really still alive. When he tried to confirm Luffy's heartbeat countless times at night, he knew that things were a little bad.
He could only control himself and try not to look at Luffy lying on the hospital bed. Maybe when Luffy woke up he would no longer think like this, but this should be normal. After all, he was just one step away, just one step away from losing his brother completely.
But it will be okay, everything. He will make sure that Luffy will not get hurt like this again. He will protect him. He will not let him face death like this again. He is willing to do everything to do this.
"Still thinking?" Thatch looked at Lucci who was still lost in thought and couldn't help but said, "Don't overthink it. Straw Hat Boy will be fine. You should go back and get some sleep."
"Yeah, I understand." Lucci nodded, then turned to look at the man with the exaggerated hairstyle and couldn't help but confess to him, "After everything we've been through, I don't think I can let Luffy take the risk of getting hurt again."
He thought Thatch would refute him, but he just raised an eyebrow and said, "In that case, why not let him join Whitebeard? You and Ace can protect him, and we and Dad will help you too."
"Luffy won't agree. He has his own team and dreams." Lucci retorted.
"Didn't Ace have his own fleet back then? We've become family now." Thatch shrugged.
"That's different!" Lucci quickly retorted, "Ace fits in here."
"How do you know if it's suitable before you join?" Thatch said with a smile, "You think too much. Maybe Straw Hat Boy likes it here."
Lucci looked at Thatch and suddenly realized that Thatch didn't understand him. He just chose to understand him and wanted to help him. He didn't want him to worry more. Lucci nodded and finally said, "You're right, I think too much."
Luffy's pale, pained face kept flashing in his mind, which made him unable to care more, but Luffy also knew that he didn't want Luffy to go against his will. "I don't want Luffy to hate me, but I will try."
……
Marco sat down in the restaurant and moved Harta, who had been pestering the sleeping Ace, away from the bench. Marco scolded him, "Stop drawing on his face while he's sleeping."
Harta curled his lips and closed the pen. "Marco, you're so harsh on me. If it was Lucci drawing here, you wouldn't stop him at all."
"He wouldn't be bored enough to do such a thing," Marco retorted lazily.
"Of course he would do it, he just disguised it too well." Harta said angrily. Every time they did a prank, Lucci could always get himself out of it, resulting in only a few of them being punished and scolded. Even Marco thought he was a good person. Only a few of them knew how bad that guy's character was. It was obvious that many of the pranks were thought up by him.
"Let him play, don't be such a killjoy, Marco." Thatch, who was sitting opposite Marco, grinned.
Marco didn't even raise his head. While drinking from his cup, he used his free hand to throw the marker on the table at Thatch, hitting him on the head accurately.
Thatch yelled exaggeratedly and fell off the bench. As soon as the seat was vacant, it was occupied by Izo who was holding three trays in his hands. Thatch immediately shouted in dissatisfaction, "Izo, how dare you take my seat."
"There's no name on it," Izo said calmly, before pushing the two trays in his hands towards Ace and the seat next to him.
The restaurant was as lively as usual, except for some foreign prisoners eating here. The conversation at the captain's table was the same as usual, Harta chattered, Thatch muttered complaints, Izo occasionally made a few dry jokes, and Marco listened quietly, enjoying the same day as usual, but this time he noticed that Ace and Lucci's subtle bickering was missing.
Marco glanced at the sleeping Ace, who was using mashed potatoes as a pillow and snoring as if no one was around. Although the dark circles under his eyes were still clearly visible, his face was no longer as pale as yesterday. He should be able to fully recover after a few days of rest.
"Are Lucci and Sabo coming to the restaurant for breakfast?" Marco looked at Thatch and asked, "Didn't they ask to leave the infirmary after waking up yesterday afternoon? Why haven't they come out now that they can?"
"Lucci and Sabo both said they'd wait in the infirmary for Luffy to wake up," Thatch said dejectedly. "I wanted Lucci to go to sleep, but he insisted on staying by the Straw Hat's side."
"Ace will bring breakfast to them after he finishes eating." Harta explained.
"What's wrong?" Marco looked at Thatch in confusion.
Hearing Marco's question, Thatch glanced at Ace curiously, then glanced at everyone at the table. He leaned forward and lowered his voice in a mysterious tone, "I shouldn't have told you now..."
Izo, who didn't like gossip, also came over. Harta's eyes sparkled as he looked at Sachi expectantly. Marco didn't react. Sachi always liked to exaggerate, so even if he suddenly said that something shouldn't be revealed was the dinner menu, Marco wouldn't be surprised.
"Lucci talked to me this morning. He's worried..." Thatch whispered, "Worried about his brother."
"That's it? I thought it was something big." Harta sighed in disappointment.
"You should tell him that his brother is out of danger and it's only a matter of time before he wakes up," said Marco.
"Lucci is not worried that the Straw Hat Kid won't wake up, or maybe he is, but more importantly, he is worried about what will happen after the Straw Hat Kid wakes up." Thatch said mysteriously.
"This is normal. I have a younger sister. If she had experienced what Luffy did, I can't imagine how worried she would be." Izo opened the fan in his hand and said with a sigh.
A heavy atmosphere spread, and Marco and Thatch immediately thought of the screams of the Straw Hat Boy and the miserable state of his body, which was completely covered in venom and blood.
"He's not just worried, he wants to do something." Thatch continued, "He said he can't let Luffy risk getting hurt again. You should know what he means."
"What do you mean? What does he want to do?" Marco put down the cup and asked with a frown.
"I suggested to him to let Straw Hat join us." Thatch grinned. "That's the best advice. Think about it, this way, Lucci won't be so worried, and we can all help him protect his brother."
"That depends on Straw Hat Luffy's wishes." Marco continued to pick up the cup. If they just wanted to add a new family member, he had no objection. After all, in terms of relationship, Straw Hat Luffy was Lucci and Ace's younger brother, and could be considered their family. Even if not family, he would be an ally. "But don't hold your hope. Judging from what Straw Hat Luffy has done since he went to sea, his temper is even wilder than Ace's. There's no way he'll join us."
"That's why I want to ask you to help. When Straw Hat Boy wakes up, we must show him the benefits of joining our pirate group." Thatch said with a smile.
"Why are we doing this?" Harta asked puzzled.
