Chapter 216: The king's disease 2
Marlowe spat blood from his mouth, scoffing as he held his abdomen, favoring his injured ribs. Despite his wounds, he couldn't remain idle while others fought.
"You are more than welcome to try!" Marlowe retorted, limping but gaining speed as he approached Dravena. Flames erupted from his hand, extending into fiery whips aimed at Dravena's armor.
But the King's Disease was no ordinary armor. It absorbed the blows, reflecting a red glow before dissipating. Dravena pressed forward, undeterred, as Marlowe swung his whips rapidly, each clash creating a miniature sonic boom.
Damien observed from the sidelines, analyzing Marlowe's futile attempts to breach Dravena's impenetrable armor. The very limits of her armor's resilience intrigued Damien, urging him to push it to its breaking point.
One because the armour Dravena was wearing was basically impenetrable or at least until he tested it to the very limits to prove so.Secondly, seeing how Marlowe moved, Damien could tell he wasn't a hundred percent.
Marlowe's movements betrayed his physical strain. Obvious remnant of his earlier altercation with Dravena. Despite his diminished state, Marlowe wielded formidable power, harnessing the fiery abilities of the Shelly clan with unmatched skill.
In the intricate world of vampire abilities, not every member could access their household's powers. It was a matter of choice and dedication, honed from infancy to adulthood. Mastery of these abilities demanded unwavering commitment and relentless practice.
Many vampires shied away from the burdensome pressure of mastering their family's abilities, opting instead for lesser-known powers. Yet, for Marlowe, the flames of the Shelly clan ran in his veins, a testament to his unwavering determination and innate strength.
As Marlowe's fiery whips clashed against Dravena's impervious armor, Damien pondered the complexities of power and lineage. Each clash echoed with the weight of centuries-old rivalries and the relentless pursuit of dominance in the vampire hierarchy.
Despite his urge to intervene, Damien hesitated, reluctant to join Marlowe in the fray. The thought of teaming up against Dravena, especially considering their shared history, didn't sit well with him.
"Two lords against one? Surely not what would be repeated of my legend when I'm long gone," he mused, grappling with his moral compass.
In a swift and merciless display of power, she delivered a series of devastating blows, she spun with a spinning heel kick, slamming her heel into his temple. She then grabbed his head, headbutted him and then swung him by his attire, sending Marlowe crashing into a nearby wall.
Aware that his presence had drawn Dravena's attention, Damien braced himself for the inevitable confrontation. With a fierce determination in her eyes, Dravena charged at him, her movements fueled by rage and malice.
"Ah, you," she spat, her voice dripping with contempt as she closed the space between them.
Yes love," Damien answered with a cheeky smile knowing it would annoy Dravena and it did just that. She took offense at his casual tunts and swung a fist at him.
As Dravena's fist hurtled towards him, Damien's instincts kicked in, propelling him into a graceful dodge that left him unscathed. He retaliated with a series of swift jabs aimed at Dravena's midsection, but her armor proved to be an impenetrable barrier, each blow glancing off with a resounding clang.
Undeterred, Damien continued to press the attack, his movements fluid and precise as he sought to exploit any vulnerability in Dravena's defenses. As she spun to face him, he anticipated her next move, ducking beneath her elbow strike and delivering a flurry of rapid kicks that struck true.
But all they serve to do was infuriate Dravena and she made him pay by clapping both of her hands together. Immediately, her armour lit up red and from her hand, a devastating red energy was unleashed.
Damien summoned an ice wall to shield himself from the onslaught, but the sheer force of Dravena's attack shattered it with ease, leaving him vulnerable to the full brunt of her power.
Desperate to evade the onslaught, Damien encased his body in a protective shell of ice, but the searing heat of Dravena's energy attack melted through his defenses, sending him hurtling through the air with bone-jarring force. As he crashed through the cave wall and tumbled into the darkness beyond, a sense of defeat threatened to overwhelm him.
Yet even in the depths of despair, Damien refused to surrender to hopelessness. Rising to his feet, battered but unbroken, he cast a defiant glance at Marlowe, who was slowly regaining his footing. Together, they would stand against the tide of darkness that threatened to engulf them, united in their determination to vanquish their common foe.
"Perhaps a united front wouldn't be such a bad idea," Damien remarked, groaning in between as he saw Marlowe getting up yet again. He too had to get up and rejoin the fray.
