Chapter 205 205: The Girl's Anger

Chapter 205 205: The Girl's Anger

Though Ye Fei wasn't fully confident in the results, Miao Xin couldn't help feeling astonished. Li Yun's condition was severe, and even her mentor, Dongfang Ruolan, had struggled to find a solution before starting her research into the TongJin Pill.

Hearing Ye Fei's assertion that he might be able to help left her intrigued. The possibility that he was lying didn't cross her mind; having grown up in a military environment among straightforward people, she assumed no one would joke about such a serious matter.

When the three entered the ward, Li Yun was still asleep. Zhang Qiang considered waking him, but Ye Fei stopped him. Though he believed the recovery pill would help, hearing about Dongfang Ruolan's efforts made him reluctant to use his device on Li Yun. He chose to let him rest instead.

As Ye Fei gazed at Li Yun, whose once robust frame was now frail, a sense of guilt filled him, and he resolved to repay him one day. He knew, though, that a man as dedicated to the special forces as Li Yun probably wanted no thanks—so he decided to look after Li Yun's family whenever he could.

Close to noon, Li Yun finally stirred. Seeing him awaken, Ye Fei greeted him immediately. "Uncle Li, you're awake!"

Li Yun smiled faintly. "Xiaoman, you're here. Old Zhang and the others told me everything yesterday." His expression grew serious. "Thank you. Without you and Captain Liu, we wouldn't have made it back."

Ye Fei was moved by Li Yun's words. Li Yun had risked his own safety to protect Ye Fei without seeking praise, but now he was thanking him instead. This sense of camaraderie stirred Ye Fei deeply.

"Uncle Li, there's no need to thank me," Ye Fei replied, genuinely touched. "I'm part of the team, too. If anyone should be grateful, it's me."

Zhang Qiang interrupted with a laugh, "Enough with the gratitude speeches. Old Li, you saved Xiaoman out of comradeship, and he eliminated the enemy out of that same bond. Enough with the thanks; that's what we're all here for!"

Ye Fei and Li Yun exchanged slightly embarrassed smiles, realizing Zhang Qiang had a point. Ye Fei, in his first field operation, was naturally moved by such an experience, while Li Yun, sensing this, wanted to ease any burden he might carry.

Ye Fei reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small vial of recovery pills from his inventory. "Uncle Li, I stumbled upon this medicine. It's said to restore the body's strength. Let's try one and see if it helps."

Seeing the small, round pill in Ye Fei's hand, Miao Xin's eyes lit up. Quickly, she poured Li Yun a cup of water, took the vial, and carefully handed him a pill. Li Yun swallowed it, and in less than a minute, his pallor faded as a healthy flush returned to his cheeks. The once-diminished muscle tone in his arms visibly regained fullness, leaving Zhang Qiang and Miao Xin speechless with amazement. Li Yun, unable to feel his body yet, saw their expressions and sensed the positive change, lifting his spirits.

Knowing what to expect, Ye Fei wasn't surprised. "Uncle Li, try moving. Do you feel any difference?"

Li Yun attempted to move but shook his head. "No, it's the same as before. I still can't feel anything."

Seeing him laugh, Li Xiaoyan's anger flared. Ignoring Zhang Qiang's and her father's attempts to calm her, she raised her voice. "Get out!"

Recognizing her anger and the situation, Ye Fei sighed, turned, and left the room. He realized that staying would only deepen her resentment, making it harder to resolve any misunderstandings between them.

In the corridor, Zhang Qiang and Miao Xin joined him. Zhang Qiang offered him a sympathetic pat on the shoulder, saying, "Don't blame Xiaoyan. She's just upset about her dad."

"I understand," Ye Fei replied. He could empathize with her pain; he had been just as angry when Li Yun was first injured.

With Liu Junyi still away, the special forces operations fell under the supervision of Zhang Qiang and two other captains, so Ye Fei couldn't linger at the hospital. Miao Xin, planning to join Dongfang Ruolan for lunch, invited Ye Fei to join, but he chose to stay nearby to better understand Li Yun's condition and work toward gaining Li Xiaoyan's trust.

After Ye Fei left, Li Xiaoyan sat by her father's bedside, her expression stubborn. Li Yun, glancing at his daughter, sighed. "Xiaoyan, how could you speak to him like that? Xiaoman is my comrade."

Her father's words only heightened her anger, and she replied, "So?"

Seeing her lack of understanding, Li Yun's patience wore thin. "Do you even know what it means to be comrades? It means trusting each other with your life on the battlefield. I was only injured covering him, and others before me have sacrificed themselves to protect me. Do you think their children blame me?"

A twinge of guilt crossed Li Xiaoyan's face. Her anger, she explained, didn't stem from her father's injury but from what she saw as Ye Fei's casual attitude. "It's not because of your injury, Dad. He only came to see you today! All the others were here yesterday. Does he think just because he's the captain's nephew, he can take everyone's loyalty for granted?"

Realizing he'd misunderstood her, Li Yun shook his head, explaining, "Xiaoman isn't like that. If he delayed, I'm sure he had a good reason."

"Hmph!" Xiaoyan turned away, still fuming, while Li Yun could only smile wryly.

Ye Fei, who had overheard the conversation from the hallway, realized he needed to clear the air. He knocked gently, entered, and approached Li Yun's bedside.

"Uncle Li, I should be going. I'll come back this afternoon," Ye Fei said, bowing slightly.

Li Yun returned his smile and said, "There's no need. If you have other things to take care of, do them. I'm doing just fine."

Ye Fei's expression softened. "Uncle Li, nothing is more important than your recovery. You were injured because of me. I should have come as soon as I returned yesterday, but I was gathering something I thought might help you heal faster." Ye Fei's face was solemn enough to tell a lie; he couldn't tell Li Yun that it was because he was a big fan of sex and didn't care about him because he was in a hurry to go back to see those beloved women.
