Chapter 143 The First Clearing (3)

Chapter 143 The First Clearing (3)

Fifteen minutes after finalizing his plan, Aoni found himself far away from the cavern's wall, clinging to a bus-sized stalactite almost 70 feet above the ground and using the surrounding Energia Crystals as footholds.

However, while he was still several dozen feet from the ceiling, the Lad had basically come to a stop.

'This was a bad idea, this was a bad idea, THIS WAS A BAD IDEA.' Eyes trained in on a sleeping insect not even three inches from his face, Aoni felt the sweat trickling down his brow because although it was only one dot, er, 1-Star creature, he knew that if he so much as breathed on it, the damn thing could throw his entire plan into disarray.

The silverish insect had been disguised and clinging to the same stalactite, albeit out of sight as it was on the other side from him, so it wasn't until he reached that point in his climb that he'd even seen it in the first place; otherwise, Aoni would have avoided it and continued on his little rock-climbing adventure unhindered.

'What do I do? Should I just go ahead and work from here?' He thought while readjusting his grip on the wall and chewing his bottom lip.

In truth, he'd already come plenty high, so technically, if he wanted to begin the first phase of his little plan, it would suffice; however, the issue comes in the form of the second phase, attacking and clearing out all the stalactites so they fell onto the unsuspecting bugs below.

It was already an idiotic plan, to begin with, but now he was starting to realize just how dumb and impulsive he'd been in believing it was even possible.

After all, the cavern was massive and plenty large enough to house a small town by itself.

The original plan was to create several tall ice walls and drop them down in place from the ceiling, which would, in turn, cut out an X-shaped pattern in the cavern, enclosing the insects, effectively corralling them into boxes wherein he'd be able to drop death from above in the form of stone spikes laced with Energia Shards. 'It's okay; everyone has momentary lapses in judgment. Don't mind it, Aoni, it's just YOUR LIFE ON THE LINE!!! WHAT WAS I THINKING?'

'No, no, calm down, there has to be a way to make this work, ahhh, but I'm already so damn high up...' His eyes darted around the large cavern, looking for any conceivable way to salvage his situation, and that's when inspiration struck him.

'Slide...but can I even pull it off...'

After all, if this thing hit the ground and shattered, it would be more counterproductive than helpful and end up with him splatting on the ground instead.

Then...

BANG!

With a sound akin to a car crash, the shard slammed into the ground, causing the head of EVERY SINGLE INSECT TO SNAP IN ITS DIRECTION!

"SKRIEEE SKREEE!"

"BUZZZ BUZZZ SKREEE!"

"KANAKANNA!"

"SHAA SHAAA SHAA!"

"ALL OR NOTHING," the instant the loud sound erupted in the cavern, a multitude of high-pitched clicks, screams, and screeches went off, rattling Aoni's ear drums, making him nearly go deaf, but he didn't care because the fucker right next to him had woken up and was staring right at his face.

Thus, he let go and fell.

'Don't panic, don't panic,' feeling the wind rushing at his face, the Lad angled his body in such a way that he was basically parallel to the shard, legs crouched as if landing from a big jump, and both hands out in front of him.

'Think ice breath, THINK ICE BREATH!' Resisting the urge to scream as the ground rapidly approached, Aoni pictured a massive vortex surging in front of his palms, drawing a huge amount of Energia from his surroundings and mixing it with his own, and then shooting out from his hands like a dragon's Ice breath.
