Chapter 83 Not so fast
Chapter 83 Not so fast
Ethan frowned when he heard footsteps in just a few minutes. He expected his demons to take their time but it looked like danger was lurking around right in the corner. Ethan immediately stood up and patted Lia to become alert as well.
The two of them hid near a big boulder as they waited for the approaching figure to emerge from the mine's dimly lit entrance. Ethan's breath slowed as he pressed himself against the cold stone, every muscle coiled like a spring. This was too fast. If his demons had encountered an enemy already, then the danger was far closer than he had anticipated.
Lia stirred beside him, shaking off her exhaustion as she gripped her staff tightly. Her eyes met his, sharp and questioning, but Ethan simply gestured for her to stay silent. They would see soon enough whether this was friend or foe.
The footsteps grew louder, the rhythmic tap of boots against stone echoing eerily in the cavern. Then, a shadow moved into view— one of Ethan's demons but it wasn't alone. The demon dragged with it, a familiar figure, Lyra, the young lady of Lord Nessleson's house.
Ethan's heart nearly stopped.@@@@
Lyra? Here?
He was only just now saying goodbye to his past and a blast from his past followed him the very next moment. The demon dragged her forward with little regard for her status. Her once-pristine dress was torn, and her hair disheveled. She pretty much looked like a ragged barbie doll.
Ethan's gaze lingered on her a moment and then just as he was about to make sense of the situation, more footsteps sounded. "Fuck." Ethan suddenly realized that the unconscious woman was no longer his biggest problem.
Now Ethan just had to deal with the problem in front of him.
The hulking demon stepped further inside, its massive claws scraping against the stone as it sniffed the air. Four more of Ethan's demons walked alongside it but all of them were barely level 5. They were simply not enough to deal with this brute.
Ethan immediately dismissed all of his other minions and started summoning one after the other. However, he was simply not fast enough. The hulking big guy spotted him soon enough and his summons.
The demon's crimson eyes locked onto Ethan, a slow, rumbling growl escaping its massive throat. It knew. It knew exactly who he was, what he was doing, and that this time, there was nowhere to run.
Ethan barely had time to complete his second summoning before the demon lunged. Faster than before. More aggressive. It wasn't just hunting him—it was angry.
Ethan threw himself to the side, rolling over jagged rocks as the monster's claw slammed into the ground where he had stood seconds ago. The sheer force sent tremors through the cavern, cracks webbing out along the stone floor.
Shit. He had underestimated how much of a rage boost this thing had gotten.
He barely had time to breathe before it swung again. This time, Ethan dodged late—the claw grazed his arm, tearing through his shirt and drawing blood. He hissed but didn't slow down.
