Chapter 60 Simple and Honest Nature
Chapter 60 Simple and Honest Nature
Tomoo Muto gave them a new task: to increase sales to 20,000 copies.
However, he was given more time; he just needs to finish it this year.
The salary increase boosted the morale of the newspaper staff. They all knew that they needed to hire more people and add more equipment soon, so everyone was highly motivated. The quality of the newspaper's content has been good recently, so sales have been able to increase.
"Notify the printing plant to increase the number of copies to 12,000 tomorrow."
Su Yuncheng gave the order, and Huang Chuanming immediately nodded: "Yes, editor-in-chief, I'll go and inform them right away."
The printing factory's intention was also to increase printing volume; the more they printed, the more money they made.
Su Yuncheng had no intention of adding printing business himself; their newspaper sales were not high, and it would be difficult to sustain them on their own.
Having multiple printing plants would allow him to focus more of his energy.
After getting off work in the afternoon, Su Yuncheng changed his clothes after dark and went to the vicinity of Lao Meng's residence.
There weren't many people outside where Lao Meng lived, so Su Yuncheng didn't go in and instead sat down at a small restaurant diagonally opposite.
You can see the entrance and exit of the alley from here.
Su Yuncheng arrived a bit late today and didn't plan to go in to ask. Whether it was inside or nearby, it didn't matter. If he couldn't find out today, he could come back tomorrow.
Xiao Wei's problem has been solved; he now needs to find out the identity of the person in his dream as soon as possible.
Why can he see himself in his dream?
What does this dream foreshadow, or what is it trying to tell him?
Su Yuncheng had to figure these things out.
The restaurant wasn't big, but it was quite crowded. Su Yuncheng sat in a corner, where he could see outside. In fact, he could see outside from the side, so he wouldn't be noticed by people outside.
Su Yuncheng ordered two dishes, intending to have dinner here.
Small restaurants like this don't have high prices, and their customers are mostly local residents.
"Excuse me, could we share a table?"
Just as Su Yuncheng's dishes were served, a person carrying a large bowl came to his table.
The restaurant was already full, and his table was the least crowded.
"Sure, please have a seat."
Su Yuncheng smiled. The person opposite him was a young man who looked a few years older than him. He was wearing coarse cloth clothes and had calluses on his hands, clearly someone who did manual labor.
"Thanks."
The young man sat down opposite Su Yuncheng. The bowl seemed a little hot, so he put it down and rubbed his hands together.
Su Yuncheng glanced at his bowl, which contained plain noodles, but made from white flour. For many strong people, this was already a hearty dinner.
"Would you like some?"
Su Yuncheng pointed to the dishes in front of him and asked directly. The young man, who was eating noodles, looked up at Su Yuncheng in surprise.
"No need, no need, this is enough for me."
The young man shook his head quickly, seemingly a little shy, but he sniffed the air.
Even if Su Yuncheng changed his clothes, he was still dressed better than him.
Moreover, Su Yuncheng ordered one meat dish and one vegetable dish, which had a meaty aroma.
Do you live around here?
Su Yuncheng came to inquire about the situation. Since someone was sharing a table, it was a good opportunity to ask questions. While he was asking questions, Su Yuncheng put a piece of meat in his bowl.
"Thank you, thank you. I live across the street."
The young man seemed a little flattered and hurriedly replied, "That's where the person in my dream lives, right across from me."
"Shopkeeper, two more dishes, and a pot of wine."
Su Yuncheng called out, then looked across at the other side and said, "It's fate that we're sitting together today. My treat."
"Please invite me?"
The young man paused for a few seconds, then nodded again: "Thank you."
Su Yuncheng could feel the deep gratitude in his heart; this young man lacked the shrewdness of others.
If it were a cunning person, he would secretly laugh at your foolishness and offer you food.
If it weren't for that, Su Yuncheng wouldn't have specially added dishes. Even if the person wasn't there to inquire about information, Su Yuncheng would still be willing to treat such a person to drinks.
Such a simple and honest nature is truly rare.
"What's your name?"
The drinks were served first. Su Yuncheng didn't ask about the situation inside the alley. They were all sitting at the same table drinking, and he could ask them what he wanted at any time.
"My name is Noodles."
The young man answered honestly, while Su Yuncheng looked up and asked, "Noodles?"
"Is it because you like to eat noodles? Is it your real name or a nickname?"
Su Yuncheng smiled and said that "Youtiao" was just a nickname, not his real name.
"My real name is 'me'. When my mother gave birth to me, she ate a bowl of meat noodles. She said it was the most delicious thing she had ever eaten in her life."
As he spoke, a deep sadness welled up in Noodles' heart, and Su Yuncheng immediately understood that his mother was probably no longer alive.
"My father died early, before I was even born. My mother raised me alone, and she also passed away five years ago."
The noodle shop owner explained that he had never seen his father in his life, and as for photos, his family didn't have any.
It's fair to say he had no idea what his father looked like.
What are you doing now?
"I was pulling a cart, and I returned early today after delivering the cart."
Noodles answered whatever Su Yuncheng asked, and the dishes were served quickly. The two drank and ate, and soon became acquainted.
People who come in now see them and treat them like old friends.
"Sir, what's your name?"
When the second pot of wine was served, the noodles suddenly asked a question.
"Why do you call me 'sir'?" Su Yuncheng asked curiously.
"You have fair skin and delicate features, you look like you've never done manual labor, and you have such an air about you, you must be a scholar, calling you 'sir' is definitely the right thing to do."
Noodles answered honestly, and Su Yuncheng smiled. Although Noodles was just a rickshaw puller, he was very clever. He wanted to pretend to be a strong man, but he didn't have the natural talent to do so.
"You can just call me Mr. Su."
Su Yuncheng didn't tell him his real name, saying he could tell him later. Noodles nodded earnestly, "Thank you for treating me today, Mr. Su. I'd like to propose a toast to you."
The noodle shop owner poured the wine for Su Yuncheng, who readily drank it down.
"We don't have many scholars here, and you and Mr. Meng are both good people."
"Mr. Meng?" Su Yuncheng asked.
"Yes, he's incredibly knowledgeable. He teaches at a school and lives right next to me..."
Once he started talking, Noodles went on and on. Soon, Su Yuncheng narrowed his eyes. The Mr. Meng he mentioned looked a lot like the person he had seen in his dream.
"Mr. Meng is back, that's him."
The noodles suddenly pointed into the distance. They both turned their heads and could see outside. Su Yuncheng's smile widened.
It really was him, the person I saw in my dream.
"Noodles, do you want to study?"
Su Yuncheng didn't ask any further questions and changed the subject. As long as there were noodles, he could learn more about Mr. Meng at any time.
"Of course I want to, but it's impossible."
Noodles nodded vigorously. This was an honest man; Su Yuncheng hadn't heard a single lie from him today.
They didn't even have the slightest intention to deceive or take advantage of me.
In this chaotic world, it is already very rare for a person to have no bad thoughts in their heart, and Su Yuncheng had a very good impression of the noodles.
"I'll teach you later."
Su Yuncheng spoke up, and Noodles' eyes lit up, then he looked dejected: "Thank you, Mr. Su, but I don't have the time."
He has to pull the cart every day, and he can only rest for a while after handing over the cart.
Even when he was resting, he didn't have much time, and he never thought about having Su Yuncheng teach him every night.
That would affect other people's lives.
