Chapter 40 The Bloody Truth
Chapter 40 The Bloody Truth
Lynn walked over to Frillie, leaned against the counter, and called out, "Ms. Frillie."
"Um?"
Frillie glanced back at him, then her attention was immediately drawn to another item on the counter. "This clay figurine looks nice. I really want it."
"I have something I want to ask you."
Lynn continued, his voice just loud enough to drown out Philon's scolding.
"What is it?"
Frillie's attention was completely off Lynn.
"When we first met, you said I smelled like trouble."
Lynn stared at her profile. "What you're talking about, is it referring to some kind of troublesome magic that's been cast on me?"
Did I say that?
Frillie tilted her head, tapped her cheek with her index finger, and looked like she was trying hard to remember. "I don't remember. Lynn, look at this. This magical tool can turn a person's hair rainbow-colored. Isn't that interesting?"
She picked up a handheld mirror from the shelf next to her.
"You don't need to hide it from me."
Lynn reached out and gently pressed the mirror in her hand. "With the power of the Great Mage, Lady Frilian, you can definitely tell what kind of magic has been cast on me."
"...And someone has already warned me."
Frillie's innocent and carefree expression faded somewhat. She put down the mirror and stopped looking at the dazzling array of trinkets.
Philon and Shutark, who were standing nearby, also noticed that something was wrong, stopped talking, and looked over.
"Lynn".
Frillie's tone remained languid. "Do you consider yourself a mentally strong person?"
This question came as abruptly as to Lynn's expectations.
He paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "Do I look like a psychologically fragile guy?"
Frillie's gaze lingered on Lynn's face for a moment, then she nodded with great certainty.
"What?! You actually nodded? That's outrageous!"
Lynn's tone held a hint of resentment, but she quickly steered the conversation back on track.
"Putting that aside for now, can you break the spell on me? You could even handle turning me into gold, so this shouldn't be too difficult, right?"
He held high hopes, after all, the person in front of him was a great mage who had lived for thousands of years.
"To forcibly dispel it without understanding its nature is the act of an amateur. Magic is intricately constructed; reckless actions will only make things worse."
Lynn's expectations were somewhat dashed. "So, did you see its true nature?"
"Yeah, probably."
Frillie tapped her cheek with her finger and said, "It's like a kind of oblivion magic, and it's very ancient, with a very old technique."
"Forgetfulness magic?"
These four words made Lynn pause for a moment, and the image of the magical plant in Elsia Village came to mind.
Also, there's the magic that Nan Yong obtained in the village at the foot of the mountain, which allows people to forget their unhappiness, after traveling back more than eighty years through the Goddess Monument.
"What impressions do you have about forgetting magic?" Frilian asked.
"have."
Lynn recalled, "I know that the Ashoka flower has the effect of making people forget painful memories, and I also know a kind of magic that makes people forget unhappy things."
"A magic that makes people forget their unhappiness? That's an interesting kind of magic, and it fits my guess about the magic that's been cast on you."
Frillie looked intrigued, her gaze returning to Lynn's face. "So, if it really is a spell to forget unhappy things, what do you want to do? If you undo it, all the forgotten bad memories will come flooding back."
"Bad memories?"
Lynn hesitated.
If the magic on my body truly comes from the Oblivion Magic that the Southern Hero obtained before, then given the Southern Hero's noble character, this magic must naturally be beneficial to me.
only……
Choosing to forget is always a form of escapism.
"I want to know the truth."
Lynn said.
"yes."
Frilian looked at him for a few seconds, then smiled and nodded. "Good awareness. However, just knowing the name of the spell doesn't mean I can undo it. But some monks' spells are quite effective against this type of spell."
"A monk?"
Lynn pictured Sister Lorelei in his mind. "I do know someone who can do it, but she doesn't do it for free."
"In short, I can't undo this spell for you right now, but I'll keep an eye out for it."
Frillie admitted.
"All right."
Lynn had no choice but to give up for the time being, and then her eyes fell on a delicate little blue pot.
"This is a magical artifact that can bring you sweet dreams. If you want it, I can give you a discount."
The shop assistant made a timely sales pitch.
"Speaking of which, Frilian seems to have a magical artifact that causes nightmares."
Lynn remembered something and said, "Help me pack it up. I've been having really weird dreams lately."
Afterwards, Frillie continued to select her favorite spellbooks and magical tools, and was eventually scolded by Philon for wasting money until she said goodbye to Lynn.
……
Early the next morning.
As soon as Lynn opened the door, she saw two figures standing in the doorway.
It was the priest and nun I had met yesterday.
"Are you born in the Year of the Dog? Your noses are so sensitive."
Lynn leaned against the doorframe, showing no intention of letting them in. "Blocking my door so early in the morning, you can't be here just to invite me to breakfast, can you?"
"Yesterday, our men saw you walking with Frilian," Clematis said.
"so what?"
"I have some ideas about yesterday's trading. Would you like to hear them?"
"You don't mean you want me to assassinate Frillie, do you? If so, I suggest you save your breath."
"Of course not."
Clematis chuckled, "My condition is simple, and it could even be said to do you no harm. I hope you won't interfere when we're dealing with things between us and Frilian."
"You mean, I have to pretend to be blind when you're about to kill her?"
Lynn spoke very frankly.
Clematis's smile remained unchanged. "That's a sharp way of putting it, you could say that."
Lynn stroked his chin, recalling the assassination plot against Frillie devised by the Shadow Warriors in the original story, which ultimately ended in a disastrous failure.
The temporary commander Lorelei's anti-tracking and binding spells were indeed powerful, but Frilian's combat experience and magical reserves, along with Gatling Philon and the tank Shutark, made her far beyond their ability to deal with.
What's more, the reliable and filthy Lord Zain also makes an appearance along the way.
This deal is a sure thing for him.
"Okay, I agree."
Lynn looked somewhat reluctant.
"A wise choice."
Clematis stepped aside, revealing Lorelei behind him. "In exchange, she will remove the magic from your body."
Lorelei immediately stepped forward, slowly raising her hands with her palms facing Lynn.
The next second, countless chains made of pure light emerged from the air from all directions, silently shooting straight at Lynn.
Lynn immediately gripped the hilt of his knife and activated his future vision. Once he sensed a killing move, he would decapitate his opponent in the next second.
Fortunately, in the foreseen 15 seconds of the future, nothing went wrong.
That vague intuition also signals that it's safe.
So he let the chains get close to his body.
Soon, some fragmented memories in Lynn's mind surfaced clearly.
The screeching sound of brakes.
A loud crash.
There were also shards of glass flying everywhere.
"It's done."
Lorelei lowered her hand, and the light chain dissipated into the air.
"I,"
A strong feeling of suffocation washed over him, and Lynn swayed. His expression suddenly turned grim. "I will keep my promise. Please disappear from my sight immediately."
Clematis raised an eyebrow but didn't ask any further questions. He gestured to Lorelei, "Let's go."
