Chapter 26 Father?
Chapter 26 Father?
Kassel College.
White doves flew down from the roof of the church.
The lawn was lush and green, with wildflowers blooming in twos and threes.
The crimson cobblestone path stretches into the distance to a group of medieval buildings with red roofs and white walls.
Standing in the attic of the clock tower, Angers turned his gaze away from the window, sat back on the sofa, and picked up a glass of amber-colored single malt whisky, swirling it gently.
"Hey, are you really going to hand over the principal's position to that kid?"
The vice principal, dressed in a Western cowboy outfit, scratched his bird's nest-like hair and took a big gulp of beer.
"This is utterly ridiculous! Even if he's S-rank, it doesn't have to be like this!"
He wondered if his longtime friend had recently become too old and suffered from mental instability or dementia.
After all, the principal's position can be given up so easily. Do you think this is like giving up a seat on a bus or subway?
Angers didn't reply, but just stared at the swaying glass of whisky in his hand. The amber liquid collided with the ice, shimmering dazzlingly in the sunlight.
"Guderian brought someone back from the country," he blurted out out of the blue.
"Guderian?" The vice principal looked puzzled, took another big gulp of beer, and casually placed the empty bottle on the coffee table.
"Oh, this is my son's good friend, right? He's so old, and he still hasn't become a tenured professor."
Angers seemed to be used to his old friend's perpetually nonsensical remarks; he simply pulled out a few photos from his pocket and tossed them in front of the other man.
The vice principal casually accepted the photo, his previously indifferent face now showing a rare seriousness.
The contents of the photo were very simple: a full-body photo of the person who had been transferred back from China, along with his physical characteristics and, most importantly, the tattered identification document on his person.
It is identification from the Executive Department of Kassel College.
"Our people?" the vice principal asked, his gaze falling on the vital signs data sheet, which showed that the concentration of dragon blood in the test subject's body had reached an incredible level.
Generally speaking, hybrids who can achieve this level of stats are called Deadpool.
"If we only look at identification documents," Angers said, "yes."
He downed the whiskey in one gulp, the spicy flavor exploding in his mouth and a fire rising in his stomach.
"What do you mean by 'checking identification'?" the vice-principal asked, puzzled. "Didn't Norma check his identification information?"
"Unfortunately, no." Angers shook his head. "The identification is genuine, that's correct, but Norma couldn't find a single person in the database who matches it."
The vice-principal became increasingly confused as he listened. He knew that Norma, the artificial intelligence of the academy, was arguably the most advanced artificial intelligence on the planet. Moreover, all the missions and personnel data files of the executive department were backed up in it. Given Angers' status and authority, it was impossible for him not to have access to this information.
"What's even more interesting is yet to come." Angers slowly revealed the information he knew. "Not only can't we find any information about this rescued man in the academy's database, Norma also can't find him in databases around the world, as if this person appeared out of thin air."
The vice principal was visibly taken aback for a moment, then he popped open a bottle of beer with a "pop" and gulped it down.
"That's really weird."
"It's not as weird as I make it out to be," Angers shrugged. "It's just the truth."
"Of course, rather than appearing out of thin air, it's more like..." He paused for a moment.
A dark cloud obscured the sun in the sky outside the room, and the attic quickly became gloomy. A gust of wind suddenly blew in through the open window, making the curtains flutter loudly.
"His previous existence in this world was erased by some being."
"Erased?" The vice principal's expression turned serious.
If there is anything in this world that can erase the traces of a person's existence, then there is only one possibility.
Dragons, and not just ordinary third-generation, fourth-generation, or even second-generation species; only first-generation species at least at the level of the Four Great Kings could possibly achieve this.
And this is only a possibility. According to the ancient parchment scrolls he consulted, the four kings correspond to the four elements of earth, fire, wind, and water, and they are born with the ability to command these elements that permeate the environment.
But to erase a person's existence out of thin air—that kind of power is probably beyond anything else...
The vice principal opened another can of beer, as if only in this way could he wash away the horror in his heart.
"Our time is running out, my old friend."
Angers got up and went to the window again, and the students of Kassel College, who thought a downpour was coming, quickened their pace.
"In extraordinary times, extraordinary measures are necessary."
The vice principal hesitated, saying, "But the board of directors won't agree to this."
"I don't need their approval. I'm in charge of the college's affairs." Hilbert Jean Angers, the first and only principal of the Kassel College, turned around.
Just then, the sunlight pierced through the dark clouds and shone on him through the window.
"Besides, he's just an honorary principal."
"An honorary principal is still a principal," the vice-principal muttered. "Fuck! Doesn't that mean this kid is already a year ahead of me before he even enrolled?"
"After all, he's an S-class." Angers raised his glass.
"To our honorary principal, Lu Mingfei."
……
"Sir, red wine or orange juice?"
"Orange juice, thank you."
A flight attendant with a good figure handed a glass of orange juice to the black-haired boy sitting in his seat.
Lu Mingfei quickly finished the glass of orange juice in one gulp.
He is not yet an adult and, strictly speaking, is not suitable for drinking alcohol.
Furthermore, orange juice is rich in vitamin C, which is beneficial to health.
After receiving Nono's message, Professor Gu from Kassel College immediately knocked on Lu Mingfei's door with the contract documents and school staff from Shilan Middle School.
The process of graduating and enrolling was very simple. Once Lu Mingfei signed the document, it would take effect immediately, and he would become the honorary principal of Kassel College.
Although the title of honorary principal sounds prestigious, he doesn't actually have much power except for the series of benefits that come with being a principal.
However, this is already quite astonishing, considering that based on his public image, he is just an ordinary high school student with slightly improved grades, neither a so-called genius nor the heir of a powerful family.
Why would a prestigious private university located in the suburbs of Chicago offer him such a huge incentive just to invite him to enroll?
There must be something wrong here.
Thinking of the name Hilbert Jean Angers mentioned in his parents' letters, Lu Mingfei's heart stirred. He looked out the window, where the clouds spread out like a carpet beneath the plane.
The other person seems to be the principal of Kassel College, so could it be...
He remembered how his parents had abandoned him after sending him to his uncle and aunt's house.
But this man named Angers takes such good care of him. Could it be that he is actually his biological father?
