Chapter 117 Lupine
"Basilisk?" Snape frowned.
"I remember the basilisk doesn't petrify life forms; it just kills them, right?"
Dumbledore looked at Kane: "Hmm, perhaps we've discovered a new characteristic of the Basilisk. If you see the Basilisk through optical reflection, such as its reflection in water on the ground, you won't die, but rather be petrified."
After he finished speaking, he placed Mrs. Lorris on Filch's head.
"I think it's necessary to hold a meeting with the young wizards now, after we've made glasses that can protect against the basilisk's eyes," Dumbledore said, looking at Kane.
"Do you have any ideas?"
Kane's solution... of course there is one. Although the glasses he saw in the Eternal Realm were all incredibly ugly and abstract, glasses in the real world aren't necessarily bad either. They simply reduce damage through optical reflection, which is just a matter of putting together a few mirrors in a Muggle factory.
"I need to go back to the Muggle world," Kane suddenly said.
"Hmm... Shall I send you to Germany?"
"No need, just find any machine shop to drop it off for me."
"The machine shop—" Dumbledore sat in his seat, tapping his knuckles absentmindedly. Hmm, he actually knew a wizard who made a living in a place like that.
Because he couldn't find any decent work in the wizarding world.
"Severus, are you ready to leave?" Dumbledore suddenly looked at Snape beside him and said quietly.
"Hmm." Snape knew Dumbledore was about to say something impolite or that he didn't want to hear, so it was best for him to leave, otherwise he might hear something he didn't want to hear...
After Severus left, Dumbledore pulled a map from under his desk: "Let me think, the factory should be here... um, right here, Monte Technical Manufacturing Plant. Go inside this factory and find a man named Remus Lupin; he'll help you."
"Is he the owner of this factory?" Kane asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, I don't know about that, but I asked him before, and he said he's doing well at this manufacturing plant, so he should be able to help you."
As Dumbledore spoke, he cast a spell on Kane, creating a small arrow that only he could see in front of him. This arrow pointed in the direction of the manufacturing plant. He also gave Kane a magical name card of Remus Lupin, which, once there, would simply be flicked to let the owner of the name card know that someone was looking for him.
"Then I'll go now." Kane said, pulling the broom out of the little pumpkin's mouth, and without saying another word, he flew out of the principal's office.
Dumbledore remained calmly seated. Lupin was a man of his word and his actions; he said he was doing well, and he probably really was, able to help Kane and Hogwarts.
Okay, I'm relieved.
Shortly after, in the suburbs of London, Kane landed and stuffed the broom back into the little pumpkin's belly. Then, carrying the little pumpkin on his back, he headed towards the factory emitting black smoke not far away.
From the outside, this factory looks like a complete sweatshop. To put it another way, Lupin, whom Dumbledore was talking about, should also be a despicable capitalist, the kind who should be hung from a lamppost.
Soon, after Kane walked into the factory gate, took out the business card from his pocket, flicked it, and sat on the stone platform by the roadside, waiting for a stretch Lincoln or Cadillac to suddenly drive out of the factory and pick him up.
Half an hour passed, but no car came out to greet Dumbledore's messenger. Instead, a scraggly man in worn and greasy work clothes sat next to him, peering around as if waiting for something.
"Hey, uncle? What are you doing here?" Kane asked quietly.
"Waiting for someone," the middle-aged man replied politely as he turned around.
For some reason, a thought suddenly occurred to Kane, perhaps...
To confirm his suspicion, he suddenly asked, "Did someone call you?"
"Oh, no, I don't have one. I can't afford a phone. But if anyone needs to contact me, I'll let them know," the man said politely.
"Hmm..." Kane slowly took the business card out of his pocket. Before flicking it, he even used his magical vision to clearly see the moment the business card was flicked, when it emitted a magical wave that connected to the uncle next to him.
The man also saw the business card he had given Dumbledore when he replied to his letter earlier, and the two of them gasped at the same time.
But Kane finally spoke first, saying what he wanted to say: "Didn't you say you were doing well in the Muggle world?"
Lu Ping blushed slightly: "I have food and lodging here, and I can even choose my own time off each month. I'm really living a good life."
Kane silently stroked his chin: "You're a Squib?"
"My grades were pretty good when I was in school," Lu Ping defended himself.
"Hmm... so how did you get to where you are?" Kane knew it might be impolite, but he really wanted to ask.
"Due to some unforeseen circumstances, let's get back to business. I only gave this business card to Dumbledore. Is there anything he needs my help with?"
Kane pursed his lips; in truth, he no longer knew whether Mr. Lupin could still help.
"Well... there's a little problem at Hogwarts right now. A magical creature that can petrify people with its eyes is hiding inside Hogwarts," Kane began, half-jokingly explaining.
"His eyes are petrified... I've never seen such a magical animal before."
"Right? I've never seen it either, but through optical reflection, I've seen that the light can reflect damage back, so we need a kind of optical reflective goggles... To be honest, I thought you were the boss here, but now..." Kane looked at Lupin, whose clothes and demeanor gave off a slightly shabby and aggrieved air.
He suddenly felt a little unsure.
When Lu Ping heard this, he waved his hand dismissively, saying that he had worked in the factory for so long and knew the basic procedures.
Soon, as Lupin began to go through the procedures, Kane looked at the person walking in front and really felt that this person was somewhat reliable.
Yes, at least it was a smooth ride all the way.
When it came time to pay, Kane watched as Lupin pulled out his meager pounds from his pitiful wallet, and he suddenly regretted it.
