Chapter 15: Was the safe retreat...?
Chapter 15: Was the safe retreat...?
There's no mistake, what's in front of me looks exactly like Iron Man's first core reactor.
No one but Tony Stark could have come up with such a brilliant design.
It seems that some of what Rhodes said is true; there are indeed treasures left behind by Tony in this cave.
Qin Wuying still couldn't understand why the reactor was placed here.
Of course, it wasn't intended for the Ten Commandments Gang to study.
"What is this? It's hidden so well, it must be very important."
As Cliff spoke, he was about to smash the glass case and remove the reactor by hand.
Qin Wuying reached out to stop Cliff, signaling him not to act rashly.
"If we force it like this, we might damage the items inside. Let's take the box along with it."
"Darling, he's right, it's best to be careful," Emily chimed in.
Cliff scratched his head, agreeing with what the two said. He then handed the robotic arm to Emily and carefully lifted the glass case himself.
If nothing unexpected happens, this reactor is the mission objective that Boss Rhodes mentioned.
Qin Wuying looked around and, finding the other items to be of little value, paid them no further attention.
The two agents then filled the exoskeleton backpack with as much stuff as possible.
"We can retreat now. I'll call a helicopter right away."
Cliff pressed the communication device and started paging, but strangely, no one responded for a long time.
"Wait a minute, I remember he should be around here."
Just as the group was waiting anxiously, Qin Wuying's communication device received a signal.
"Calling, calling. This is Qin Wuying from Field Operations Team Six."
"Calling, calling. This is the Security Department command center. Your signal has been received."
The person who called himself "Command Center" sounded unreliable, with a playboy vibe.
"Where did our helicopter go? No one came to pick us up after we finished the mission."
"Your request has been received, and we will dispatch a backup helicopter immediately."
Not long after the communication ended, the roar of engines and the spinning of propellers could be heard outside the cave.
When the mission was launched, the security department dispatched two helicopters as a precaution.
However, none of them were able to make contact before the command center could reach them.
"I knew it was that pilot, it must be him."
Emily sat on the return flight, angrily pounding her seat. "We almost died here, and he just ran away right away."
"It's too early to draw conclusions," Qin Wuying shook her head, disagreeing with Emily's opinion.
Because the pilot only received the destination coordinates from the security headquarters after the helicopter took off.
Therefore, it is unlikely that they would tip off the other party right under the noses of the three of them.
However, recalling the pilot's slightly unusual expression, Qin Wuying felt that this person knew some inside information.
After a day or two of travel, the helicopter finally landed steadily on the roof of the Stark Tower.
As soon as Qin Wuying touched the ground, he immediately sent his location to Lucy Stark and then prevented Cliff and Emily from moving.
A moment later, the sound of hurried footsteps in high heels came from the elevator on the top floor.
"Hey!" Lucy waved excitedly at the three of them, then ran over at a faster pace.
"Wow, you perverted fugitive, you're still alive! You really scared me to death."
"What are you talking about? It's not that easy to die. I'm telling you, there's a mole in the Ministry of State Security."
"I knew it, I knew it the moment I saw you."
Lucy put her index finger to her lips, making a shushing gesture, "You guys quietly follow me."
Qin Wuying and two agents changed into civilian clothes on a less crowded floor, and then followed Lucy into the Security Department's conference hall.
Pushing open the back door, you can see that a gathering is currently taking place here.
"You're back just in time, look at the mess you've made." Lucy pointed to the big screen.
Cliff, Emily, and Qin Wuying's headshots were placed in the very center of the screen—
Moreover, the colors are all black and white, and they are colorless.
"Holy crap, we've only been gone a few days, how did we get 'sacrificed' already?"
Looking at the long string of official obituaries below his profile picture, Qin Wuying couldn't help but feel speechless.
Cliff and Emily were completely stunned, exchanging bewildered glances, speechless.
"Wait here for me. Come over when I call your name."
Lucy had Qin Wuying and the other two squat in the very back corner, and then she walked straight up to the stage.
"I apologize for interrupting Mr. Rhodes, but I have something important to announce."
The previously quiet audience suddenly erupted into a flurry of discussion.
After all, who would announce something important at someone else's funeral? It would be rather inhumane and lacking in public morality.
"A spy has been discovered in our security department."
This caused an uproar in the audience.
"What?! There's a traitor among us?! That's impossible!"
"Don't look at me like that! I just like to slack off, it's not like I'd betray the company!"
"Could the traitor be one of those three people?"
Everyone looked around, trying to find the "spy" in the packed conference room.
These guys don't work hard normally, but they're unusually enthusiastic at times like this.
"Please don't panic. The spy has been found; it's one of the pilots who was on the same mission as us."
Lucy skipped to the next slide on the screen.
A black-and-white photograph of the first pilot also appeared on the big screen at that moment.
"This guy is dead too? What the hell?" Emily scratched her face in annoyance; she still wanted to tear the whistleblower apart with her own hands.
"Perhaps the ambush failed, so the Ten Rings killed him," Cliff speculated.
Qin Wuying remained silent; things might not be that simple.
"Next, let's have our three field agents share their experiences. Please watch!"
As soon as she finished speaking, the security personnel who were still arguing all turned around and looked at the spot Lucy Stark was pointing to.
The three people were squatting there in a rather awkward posture.
"Uh, cough cough cough." Qin Wuying coughed a few times, pretending to be coughing. "Yes, we're not dead."
When he said this and walked onto the stage, he made a point of observing the expressions of the people present.
Most people were shocked and incredulous, especially Rhodes, whose eyes held a strange fear.
Perhaps he was afraid that Qin Wuying, the former Kamar-Taj sorceress, would blame him?
"Ha, this, this is truly wonderful! You actually managed to retreat safely..."
Rhodes, panting heavily, gripped Cliff's shoulder. "Sorry, I got a little nervous seeing the dead come back to life."
"It's alright, boss. We're all happy to see you again," Emily said, trying to smooth things over.
After the so-called "memorial service" ended, Cliff and Emily immediately threw themselves into their new work.
Lucy Stark then took Qin Wuying to her office.
"Qin Wuying, do you really think that pilot is a spy for our Ministry of State Security?"
Qin Wuying carefully observed Lucy's reaction and tentatively asked:
"The real mole is probably sitting in the office next door..."
