Chapter 87 Dual-track convergence
Chapter 87 Dual-track convergence
The air at the village chief's house was really murky; every breath was mixed with the smell of incense ash.
"We can't stay here."
Ye Jianguo stared at the narrow patch of night sky above him, his brows furrowed.
"This is a dead end. If we get stuck here, we'll be like crickets trapped in a bowl."
Chen Hua nodded, the baton in his hand slightly warm from holding it for so long.
"Let's go."
The two men lifted Zhang Min up from either side, preparing to leave.
Zhang Min struggled slightly, then reached into the corner. She grabbed the neatly folded, slightly worn Zhongshan suit and hugged it to her chest, as if she were embracing a long-lost relative.
Ye Jianguo and Chen Hua exchanged a glance. Although they felt the behavior was a bit strange, taking a piece of clothing was really not a big deal.
The three of them climbed out of the mourning hall, and as soon as their feet touched the ground, an almost freezing chill shot from the soles of their feet straight to the top of their heads.
Outside the courtyard wall came the sound of uniform, chilling footsteps.
"Knock knock knock—"
They saw a pale white figure slowly approaching from the end of the street corner.
A headless god in white robes rides atop a "horse" made of living people, high above, his theatrical robes hanging down to conceal the bloodied and mangled mount beneath.
Behind him followed two rows of vengeful villager ghosts. This regular army was clearly heading towards the village chief's house.
"Where do you want to run?" Chen Hua's voice was strained, and his back was instantly soaked with sweat.
At this moment, Zhang Min raised her head, her eyes flashing with an eerie light, and clutched her Zhongshan suit tightly.
"Adan's house, let's go to Adan's house."
There is no doubt that Zhang Min is currently a living map.
Taking advantage of the darkness and the ruins, the three of them dashed out of the courtyard and ran wildly along the wall.
Fortunately, the white-robed god's attention seemed to be drawn to some more violent aura in the distance, and he paid no attention to the few scurrying insects.
They rushed into the dilapidated courtyard, broke open the main hall door, locked it, and rammed the door shut – the whole sequence of actions was fluid and seamless.
Before they could catch their breath, a deafening roar came from the direction of the village entrance.
"Boom!"
The earthquake trembled, and dust fell from the rooftops, blinding everyone.
Ye Jianguo wiped the dust off his face, rushed to the window, and peered out through the thin window paper.
In the pitch-black night, a strange, blood-red streak was rushing towards the village at an unusual speed.
She was leaping and bounding across the rooftops, carrying a large, unidentified object, her red dress fluttering like a blood-red butterfly.
Behind her followed a moving fleshy body, with countless pale hands and feet intertwined together, forming a giant stitched monster that, like a bulldozer, flattened all obstacles in its path, roaring as it tried to devour the small red dot in front of it.
"This guy..." Ye Jianguo clicked his tongue as he looked at the screen.
Nearly.
As Lu Dan, dressed in red, passed over his own courtyard, he suddenly swung his arm:
"Get out of here!"
Da Lu, who had been carried all the way, along with the headless corpse he was clinging to, was thrown into the small courtyard like a sandbag.
"Ah, help!"
With a loud, mournful cry, a man and a corpse crashed into a haystack in the yard, stirring up a flurry of weeds.
After discarding the burden, Lu Dan, dressed as a woman, didn't linger at all.
She glanced at the headless white-robed god patrolling not far ahead, a dangerous smirk playing on her lips. With a light tap of her toes in the air, she transformed into a red sword, charging straight toward the true god.
"Everyone, dinner's ready!"
The Stitched-together monster behind her, propelled by inertia, also crashed headfirst into the white-clad god's procession.
"roar!"
"presumptuous!"
The two colossal figures collided instantly, and a terrifying shockwave swept across the entire village. The white opera robe transformed into a giant python that coiled around the statue, and countless ghostly hands tore at it wildly. A divine war erupted, and the world changed color.
The culprit that caused all this, however, was like a graceful eel, dodging left and right between the two gods, and finally, taking advantage of the shockwave of an explosion, it shot itself into the main room of the courtyard like a cannonball.
"Bang!"
The door was kicked open, and Lu Dan tumbled in like a rolling gourd.
As he landed, an invisible wave swept across the area.
The noise, roars, and collapses outside the window abruptly ceased, the colors faded, and the scene turned into a pale, still black and white painting—the safe house had been triggered.
"Cough cough cough... It's so good to be alive."
Lu Dan collapsed to the ground, his red dress slipping away, revealing his tattered dark blue cotton-padded jacket. His face was deathly pale, and his chest heaved violently.
Da Lu rubbed his buttocks, which were smashed into eight pieces, and dragged the corpse into the house.
Ye Jianguo quickly stepped forward, pulled Lu Dan up from the ground, and made him lean against the table leg.
Looking at the room full of wounded people, Ye Jianguo took a deep breath, straightened his dusty collar, and spoke:
"Everyone, since we've all survived this long, it's time to be frank and open about some things. Let's get to know each other again. My name is Ye Jianguo, and I belong to..."
"Sizzle—"
A piercing electrical hum suddenly erupted, abruptly cutting off Ye Jianguo's remaining words.
Above the mottled octagonal table in the center of the main room, the space seemed to rapidly curl and tear apart like charred plastic sheeting. A deep, dark rift was ripped open out of thin air.
Before the people inside could even assume a defensive stance, several feet stepped out from the gaps.
Leading the group was Ye Jianguo, who was wearing a brand-new leather jacket and had a ruddy complexion. Behind him were Lu Dan, Chen Hua, and Da Lu, who were equally clean and unharmed, as well as Zhang Min, who had a calm expression.
The room fell into a deathly silence.
Ye Jianguo, lying on the ground, stared at himself emerging from the crack, his mouth agape, wide enough to fit a fist.
"No introduction needed."
Ye Jianguo, who was inside the rift, waved his hand, interrupting himself on the ground, his tone both weary and capable: "Once you've cleared the level, you'll naturally know who's who."
"What?"
Chen Hua, who was leaning against the wall, trembled as he held the baton, almost hitting his own foot.
"Who are you...us?"
"Yes and no."
Lu Dan emerged from the crevice, a half-smoked cigarette between his fingers, his eyes deep and unfathomable.
"To make a long story short, we don't have much time. You only have 30 minutes in the safe house."
His gaze swept over his disheveled self on the ground, and he spoke rapidly: "This damn script is a two-track system, and we're on the first track. We've already obtained the key props and even completed all the steps of the script."
"But the system's judgment is disgusting. It requires you to complete the next track as well before the gate to pass can truly be opened."
"Both tracks must be followed; neither can be dispensed with."
Lu Dan, lying on the ground, struggled to sit up: "Then we..."
"Shut up, listen."
Rift Gallbladder didn't give him a chance to ask questions, his tone cold and hard: "Don't ask why, and don't ask how you did it. The hundred thousand whys in your heads, you can figure them out yourselves after you clear the game."
"Now do as we say."
This cold and hard attitude did not arouse Lu Dan's resentment. On the contrary, it made him feel a strange sense of security because he understood himself.
The people in the crevice nodded, then moved aside in perfect unison.
The two Zhang Mins met at that moment; one was covered in mud, and the other was neatly dressed.
They spoke at the same time, their voices overlapping, creating a wonderful resonance:
"The most important thing right now is 'eyes'."
Both men turned their gazes to the headless corpse that Da Lu had dragged in.
"After obtaining the 'Eye,' you cannot linger. You must forcefully break through the boundaries and fight your way back from the yin side to the yang side."
Zhang Min stepped forward and pointed to the frozen scene outside the window: "We need to lure the red-robed two-headed god over, and bring the white-robed headless god over as well, so that the Yin and Yang realms can completely collide at the highest point of the mountain."
"And then, Ah Dan..."
At this point, everyone's gaze turned to Lu Dan, who was lying on the ground.
Rift Calamus flicked off his cigarette ash and pointed to his chest:
"The most important step, Lu Dan."
"You, which is myself, need to forcefully intervene at the moment when the two gods are entangled and fighting, and the interaction between yin and yang is at its strongest."
"You must take the complete 'eye' and, with the help of the hands of the two gods, insert the 'eye' into your own breast."
