Just as the entire office was buzzing with discussion about whether Mori had superpowers, Inspector Megure walked in: "Matsuda?"
"Inspector, is there another case?" Matsuda, who had been feeling bored just moments before, started to complain.
"It's not a case, Inspector Matsumoto wants to see you." Inspector Megure waited for Matsuda to walk up to him, then added in a low voice, "It might be related to your promotion."
His words immediately energized the somewhat dejected Matsuda.
……
Following Inspector Megure, Matsuda arrived at Inspector Matsumoto's office.
"Officer Matsuda, I have a question for you that might be related to your promotion," Inspector Matsumoto said bluntly, "What are your goals as a police officer?"
Matsuda spoke frankly, declaring loudly, "I want to climb to the top of the Metropolitan Police Department and become the head of all police officers, the Superintendent General!"
"Cough, cough, cough..."
Inspector Megure, who was standing nearby, was so startled by Matsuda's lofty ideals that he almost choked.
"Hmm, quite ambitious." Inspector Matsumoto was also surprised, but then nodded in satisfaction. "It's good for young people to have goals; it's better than just drifting through life without any motivation."
"That's settled then, Megure. From now on, when Officer Matsuda is promoted to Assistant Inspector, you must give him a good chance to train him."
"Yes, sir!" Inspector Megure saluted in response, and then he and Matsuda prepared to leave.
At that moment, Inspector Matsumoto suddenly invited, "By the way, I wonder if Officer Matsuda is free tonight? Would you mind going out for a drink with this old man?"
"Sir, it's supposed to be my shift tonight..."
Before Matsuda could finish speaking, Inspector Megure interrupted,
"Sir, Matsuda has time! I will rearrange the duty roster."
……
The two came out of Inspector Matsumoto's office, and Matsuda put his hand on Inspector Megure's shoulder: "Thank you, Inspector."
"You can't let your guard down, you have to keep working hard!" Inspector Megure warned. "Didn't another sleeping detective pop up yesterday? If you get overshadowed by these detectives, forget about that somewhat unrealistic dream, you might even have a hard time taking my place in the future."
……
After getting off work in the afternoon, Matsuda rushed to the address given to him by Inspector Matsumoto: the observation restaurant in the Beika Center Building.
But when he arrived at the destination and looked at the atmosphere around him, Matsuda suddenly felt a tightness in his anus and sensed that something was wrong.
This is an elegantly decorated upscale Western restaurant; if that were all, it would be fine.
The problem was, Matsuda looked around and saw that most of the people eating in the restaurant were couples, all lovey-dovey, and the air was thick with the smell of PDA.
Even when two men are together, they always act gay.
Dry……
This doesn't look like a place where a boss invites his subordinates to dinner at all!
Could it be that Inspector Matsumoto has taken a liking to my handsome face and is planning to sexually harass me?
That old glass!
Matsuda, a staunchly straight man, would rather give up his dreams than succumb to reality and be turned gay by his boss.
If all else fails, I'll quit being a cop and become a detective!
In the world of Detective Conan, being a detective is much more lucrative than being a police officer.
Having made up his mind, Matsuda prepared to leave.
At this moment, a waitress from the restaurant came to greet them.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. Matsuda?"
“Yes,” Matsuda nodded subconsciously.
"Ms. Matsumoto has arrived. Please follow me."
The waitress bowed slightly and then offered to lead the way.
"Ah, sorry, I have something urgent to attend to, so I'll have to..."
Matsuda was halfway through his refusal when he realized something was off about what the waitress had said.
"Wait, you just said, Matsumoto... Miss?"
“Yes,” the waitress nodded, puzzled.
"Are you sure that's not a middle-aged man with a scar on his face?" Matsuda asked again to confirm.
"Mr. Matsuda, I'm certain that she's a very beautiful and lovely Ms. Matsumoto!" The waitress said with a helpless expression.
Strange, wasn't it Inspector Matsumoto who invited us to dinner...?
Matsuda was puzzled, so he simply followed the waitress to see what was going on.
When they arrived, sure enough, sitting at the table by the window was a very young and beautiful woman.
She seemed to be getting impatient, tapping her fingers on the table from time to time.
"Miss Matsumoto, Mr. Matsuda has arrived."
The waitress gave a brief introduction and then left.
Matsuda sat down in his seat, puzzled. The woman opposite him was also scrutinizing him from head to toe.
"What is your relationship with Inspector Matsumoto?"
"You're the blind date my dad arranged for me again?"
The two spoke almost simultaneously, then both froze in surprise.
Chapter 18 The Madonna of the Prosecutor's Circle
"A blind date?" Matsuda looked puzzled.
Damn, Inspector Matsumoto really did take a liking to him, but not for himself, but for his daughter!
On the other side, Ms. Matsumoto frowned as well: "Didn't my father explain it to you clearly?"
“Inspector Matsumoto only told me to have a drink with him after get off work,” Matsuda explained.
"Damn it! That old bastard! He's pulling this trick again!"
Inspector Matsumoto's daughter turned pale with anger and slammed her hand on the table in frustration.
"Perfect timing! Since you're not here for a blind date, I'll make things clear now!"
"Actually, I already have a boyfriend, and we're planning to get married soon!" Inspector Matsumoto's daughter said frankly.
"Is that so?" Matsuda smiled nonchalantly.
Although it was a bit of a pity that the beautiful woman in front of him was already taken, he wasn't a stud who would think about breeding every woman he saw.
“Actually, I do have a girlfriend,” Matsuda explained. “She’s my colleague, and we get along very well.”
"……That's good."
Inspector Matsumoto's daughter breathed a sigh of relief.
After the two talked things out, the atmosphere immediately became much more relaxed.
Matsuda then realized that the beautiful woman in front of him was named Matsumoto Sayuri, and was indeed, one hundred percent, the daughter of Inspector Matsumoto.
Although her beautiful face and Inspector Matsumoto's thuggish face looked completely different.
"Here's your coffee and lemon tea, gentlemen." The waitress placed the two drinks in front of them.
"Ms. Matsumoto likes lemon tea?" Matsuda asked.
“Yes, it’s a hobby I’ve had since I was a child,” Matsumoto Sayuri smiled. “Officer Matsuda, you don’t think drinking lemon tea is just a child’s hobby, do you?”
"Of course not. Actually, in my hometown, there's a saying: 'Vita Lemon Tea is better than smoking marijuana.'" Matsuda mentioned a meme from his previous life on the internet.
"Inspector Matsuda's hometown, they also like to drink lemon tea?" Matsumoto Sayuri's eyes lit up.
……
Inspector Matsumoto had already paid for the blind date dinner.
Matsuda and Matsumoto Sayuri enjoyed their meal and had a very pleasant conversation.
After the meal, Matsuda escorted Sayuri to the entrance of the Beika Center Building.
“Officer Matsuda, you’re such a nice person. If I hadn’t already known Toshihiko, I might have really fallen for you.” Matsumoto Sayuri waved goodbye. “Goodbye, Officer Matsuda.”
...They even gave me a "good guy" card before I left.
Matsuda pursed his lips, watched Matsumoto Sayuri get into a taxi and leave, then turned to go home.
Then he froze.
"Tsk tsk, not bad, Matsuda!"
It was Yumi; she and a tall, mature woman were standing at the entrance of the building.
"Sato also told me that you went drinking with Inspector Matsumoto. Turns out you weren't drinking with Inspector Matsumoto, but with a beautiful woman!"
Yumi stood with her hands on her hips, her face full of anger.
The mature woman beside her also had a cold expression and uttered two words: "Scumbag!"
"Gentlemen, it's not good to make such a judgment before we've even figured things out," Matsuda explained helplessly. "That woman was Inspector Matsumoto's daughter. We were both tricked into coming here by Inspector Matsumoto."
"Inspector Matsumoto's daughter? So it was her..." The mature beauty nodded thoughtfully.
"Reiko-nee, do you know her?" Yumi asked curiously.
"Yes, I heard it from a colleague. Apparently, Inspector Matsumoto is very unhappy with his daughter's boyfriend, so he often arranges for police officers from the Metropolitan Police Department to go on blind dates with her," the mature woman said slowly.
"So, we really did wrong you?" Yumi clasped her hands together, grinning mischievously. "I was wrong, please forgive me, Lord Matsuda!"
Matsuda wasn't really angry with her. After the misunderstanding was cleared up, he looked at the mature beauty and asked Yumi in a low voice, "And this is...?"
"What? You don't recognize her?" Yumi asked in surprise, covering her mouth.
"Do I really have to get to know him?" Matsuda was also taken aback.
"Although Officer Matsuda and I have interacted a few times on official business, it has mostly been by phone, and we have never actually met in person," the mature woman said calmly.
