Chapter 280 about Dolores Umbridge
Chapter 280 about Dolores Umbridge
When he returned to his own villa from the Riddle Villa, he found Severus sitting in the hall reading a newspaper and drinking tea.
I was slightly startled; why was he sitting here so early?
I walked over, trying to sound calm and natural: "Severus, what are you doing sitting here so early in the morning?"
Severus put down his newspaper, looked up at me, and his deep eyes seemed to see right through me. “I sit here every day and read the newspaper. You just got back from the Riddle Villa. Did everything go well?” His voice was low and inquisitive.
"It went fairly smoothly; he won't make things difficult for me." I sat down opposite Severus, and Butler Chen thoughtfully served me a cup of herbal tea.
“Be careful, don’t make me worry about you.” Severus continued reading the newspaper.
"I'm curious, did the Daily Prophet write any explosive news today?" Seeing Severus looking so intently, I was really curious about what he had seen.
"It seems you'll have a new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor next semester, I think his name is Dolores Umbridge." Severus handed me the newspaper and told me to take a look.
I took the Daily Prophet from Severus, and as I rubbed the pages, a sense of unease seemed to permeate the air.
My gaze swept quickly across the page, and the news that Dolores Umbridge had been appointed as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts immediately caught my eye.
The report stated that the Ministry of Magic, out of "a high degree of concern for student safety," strongly recommended Umbridge for the position.
But who doesn't know that behind this is nothing more than a conspiracy by the Ministry of Magic to further control Hogwarts?
Umbridge, that short woman who always wears pink and has a smile that hides a knife, is going to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? It's a complete farce.
Severus crossed his arms and leaned to the side, scoffing, "The Ministry of Magic must be out of its mind to let someone who only knows theory and has no practical experience teach defense against the dark magic."
I completely agree with his opinion.
Defense Against the Dark Arts is always a challenging and practical course that requires instructors to have extensive real-world experience and the ability to deal with dark magic.
Umbridge, on the other hand, was only good at creating those cumbersome rules and regulations and manipulating power in the Ministry of Magic.
The newspaper mentioned Umbridge's teaching methods, in which she advocated arming students with theoretical knowledge, believing that students only needed to memorize magic spells and defensive theories, without needing to do actual practice.
This is undoubtedly torture for Hogwarts students who are used to learning through practice.
Imagine that in Defense Against the Dark Arts class, students are no longer waving wands and fighting simulated dark magic creatures, but sitting in a cold classroom, memorizing dry texts. How can this cultivate wizards who are truly capable of fighting against dark magic?
What's even more infuriating is that Umbridge also claims that the so-called threat of black magic is nothing but an exaggeration and a rumor fabricated by someone with ulterior motives.
This is a blatant denial of the fact that Riddle was causing trouble, and a rejection of Headmaster Dumbledore's warning.
She also threatened that in her classes, students would be forbidden from discussing Riddle and would not be allowed to use their wands indiscriminately, as if the shadow of dark magic would automatically disappear if it was not mentioned or used.
I looked at Severus, whose face was terribly grim. I knew he had always had a special affection for Defense Against the Dark Arts, and for years he had longed to teach the course, only to be repeatedly turned away.
Seeing Umbridge so wantonly disrupting the course, one can imagine his anger.
I closed the newspaper and was speechless.
Umbridge's arrival is like a dark cloud hanging over Hogwarts.
But I also understand that Harry and his friends won't just sit idly by and wait to die.
"Young Master, here are some more letters for you." As we finished talking, Butler Chen handed me a stack of letters.
I took them one by one and read them. There were letters from Percy to me, letters from Fred and George, letters from Harry and Cedric, and finally one from Oliver, and even one from Draco.
“Looks like you’re really busy.” Severus, sitting across from me, sipped his tea while looking at my pile of letters.
I just smiled and didn't say anything more.
"I'm going to the alchemy room." Severus didn't want to see the pile of letters; he just wanted to get back to his alchemy room and concoct potions.
“Severus.” I put all the letters I had on the table, then took Severus’s hand and pulled him into my arms with a little force.
Severus was in my arms, and we looked into each other's eyes, face to face.
I didn't wear my glasses today. It seems like I haven't worn my gold-rimmed glasses, which I used to disguise myself, since the holiday started.
When I went to see Riddle, I always had golden eyes, so Riddle never noticed that there was something wrong with my eyes.
Now I'm facing Severus, and he finally sees that I have a different eye.
He touched my eye sockets and asked me what happened.
I took a deep breath and slowly said, "An exchange was made."
Severus frowned, his eyes filled with heartache, and his fingers gently stroked my cheek. "Why do you always wear glasses to hide it? You know I don't care about that."
I lowered my eyes and said with a smile, "Didn't you always love Lily's emerald eyes? And those glasses have a special effect. Wearing them, at least I can sense things more clearly. Even Riddle didn't notice anything wrong with my eyes."
Severus hugged me tighter. "Actually, I've always liked your emerald eyes, not Lily's."
His words were like a warm current flowing into my heart.
For so many years, I always thought he liked Lily's eyes, but it turns out that's not it.
Severus's eyes are now filled with concern and love.
"Actually, these eyes don't affect my vision at all, they just don't look very good, don't they look a bit dull?" I joked, trying to break the somewhat heavy atmosphere.
Severus's lips curled up slightly. "No, it still looks very good."
We smiled at each other, and in each other's eyes I saw trust and reliance.
From then on, I never made any effort to hide that eye again.
I can be my most authentic self whenever I'm with Severus.
I can tell and communicate all my secrets to Severus.
