Chapter 19 The Unreasonable Old Magic Wand
Chapter 19 The Unreasonable Old Magic Wand
Siren did promise to fix Hagrid's things—his wand.
However, this kind of thing definitely can't be known by anyone else, especially not by Harry and Ron.
In a sense, these two are just like Hagrid; they are all tight-lipped and won't reveal any secrets on their own initiative.
However, they each have a flaw.
Hagrid would occasionally let slip a secret, while Harry and Ron would loudly plot, completely oblivious to who was around when they discussed their secrets.
The next day was the first weekend holiday after Hogwarts started.
Early Saturday morning, Siron left the castle and went alone to the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
Hagrid's cabin is quite conspicuous; you can see it at a glance.
When Xilun walked over, the wooden house door was tightly closed, and the windows were also completely covered, without a single gap.
"We agreed to meet today, isn't he home?" Xilun asked, knocking on the door with a puzzled look.
When the second sound came, the door creaked open a crack from the inside.
"Keep your voice down, Xilun, keep your voice down..."
Hagrid pressed his face against the crack in the door, his eyes fixed intently on the direction of the castle.
"Come in quickly!"
He gave up his spot and, after Xilun squeezed in, immediately closed the door.
"Nobody saw you, right?"
"No," Siren said. "I think you're overreacting; that will only attract more attention."
"Maybe you're right..." Hagrid rubbed his hands together, "but I really can't relax, I even put Tooth in the Forbidden Forest."
"Teeth?"
"My dog."
"So, you think a dog would reveal your secret of illegally possessing a magic wand?"
"Oh, please keep your voice down." Hagrid instinctively lifted the curtain and glanced outside.
"Alright." Siren didn't insist, but simply held out his hand. "Now give me your wand; I need to know something about it."
Hagrid nodded and took a pink umbrella from the inside pocket of his coat.
To be honest, Hagrid's disguise was really perfunctory. It was actually a small umbrella, which even Siren thought was a bit too small for him, let alone for the eleven-foot-tall Hagrid.
This thing can probably only cover his head.
If Hagrid hadn't stayed in the school's forbidden forest, he probably would have been discovered to be acting strangely long ago.
Oh well, Hagrid isn't really going to use this umbrella to block the rain anyway, so let's just leave it at that.
Xilun took the umbrella and casually removed the canopy and handle.
At sixteen inches, it must be the longest wand Xilun has ever seen, and with its crudely made willow wood casing, it reaches a length of twenty inches.
"Sirlen, how is it... Oh, what did you do!"
Before Hagrid could finish speaking, he saw Siren rub his wand hard.
The layer of wood crumbled into dust with the slightest shake, like the skin shed by a salamander, revealing the riddled magic wand beneath.
The sixteen-inch wand was covered in spiderweb-like cracks, some of which even revealed the red phoenix tail feathers inside.
Ignoring Hagrid's distress, Xiren took the item and examined it closely for a while.
"Who fixed it for you?"
"I can't tell you," Hagrid shook his head. "Don't ask, I won't tell you."
"Alright, whatever." Siren didn't seem to care. "But I dare say whoever fixed this wand must be a powerful magician."
"That's for sure, Dumbledore is the most powerful wizard..."
Hagrid's face suddenly showed a look of horror.
"I shouldn't have said it. I betrayed Dumbledore. He helped me fix my wand, but I betrayed him."
"Don't get so agitated, Hagrid." Cyrus couldn't help but rub his ears. "You don't think I'm going to tattle, do you? Don't forget I'm fixing your wand right now."
"I... I didn't mean that."
"I know." Celen held the wand flat in front of him. "I was wrong. It doesn't seem to need to be repaired again."
"what?"
"Look at this." Xiren carefully pried up a piece of oak and tried to remove it.
But several threads, thinner than a human hair, held the fragment and the remaining wand tightly together.
"I've never seen such a powerful healing spell before," Siren exclaimed. "This kind of damage is beyond the repair capabilities of any spell, yet it remains intact in another form. It's simply incredible."
"That's Dumbledore," Hagrid said matter-of-factly.
Siren didn't speak, but his desire to see the Elder Wand deepened.
If he remembered correctly, Hagrid's wand was broken fifty years ago, so for it to last this long was simply unreasonable.
"So, are you still going to fix it? Actually, it works fine as it is now."
"Fix it, of course it needs to be fixed." Hagrid hurriedly turned around.
It's usable, but it's so cracked and it's so upsetting to look at. He doesn't even dare to use any force, for fear of breaking it again.
"Alright." Xiren nodded, took out a wand, and began chanting a spell.
The incantation was very long, taking about half a minute from start to finish.
Hagrid saw with his own eyes that his wand looked like a lizard shedding its skin; first, a layer of outer shell squeezed out, and the wand instantly became thinner.
Next is the second layer.
After that, only a single fiery red phoenix tail feather remained.
Hagrid instinctively let out a whimper, but then quickly covered his mouth, worried that it might disturb Siron.
There's really no need for that; Xilun, who's already started working, won't be disturbed by the noise.
He first picked up the outermost ring of the cane.
The runes engraved on it were all misaligned, no wonder it cracked like that. It's only because Dumbledore's Restoration Charm was so powerful that it would have shattered completely long ago.
However, this also makes it easier for him to repair, as he no longer needs to piece together the puzzle.
Xilun opened the leather bag he carried with him and took out a silver carving knife, several pieces of wood, and a can of wand glue that looked like pine oil.
He had decided to help Hagrid a long time ago, and he had prepared all of this in advance.
First, carefully glue the fragments together to make sure they are in the correct position, then gradually enlarge the corresponding runes.
To put it simply, this job is quite simple: use new traces to cover the original misalignment, restoring the magic runes to their integrity.
The process is quite complicated and requires precision, so it takes some time.
In other places, whether it's Siren or Ollivander, the advice would usually be to get a new wand, which is half the price of a repair.
However, this time Siren said nothing, because Hagrid was not going to buy a new wand, and Ollivander was not going to sell it to him.
He could do it himself, but he didn't have such a large wand in his inventory, and Hagrid probably couldn't use the others either.
Take your time, it's the weekend anyway, he doesn't have much to do.
