Chapter 13 Unmanned Scouting Chicken
Chapter 13 Unmanned Scouting Chicken
It was late at night when the Holy Lord and Quill returned home.
Quill's mother stood in the doorway, her face frighteningly pale.
Seeing his mother's pale face, Quill quickly stepped forward and hugged her, saying, "Mom, it's alright now."
The woman returned her hug, but Quill could feel her hands trembling: "Mom, what's wrong?"
The woman's hands were still trembling: "I...I was thinking of going to find you, I was so worried, and then..."
She stopped mid-sentence, her gaze passing over Quill's shoulder and landing in a corner of the yard.
The Holy Lord followed her gaze.
There was a rooster there, but it wasn't an ordinary rooster.
It was wearing a miniature black tactical vest, with a scaled-down communicator, handcuffs, and a pistol that looked like a toothpick attached to it.
The rooster stood upright, its eyes fixed straight ahead; it didn't look like it was roosting, but rather like it was keeping watch.
More importantly, the expression on its face was something that even a chicken could clearly perceive.
It was a kind of professional indifference mixed with confusion about "who I am, where I am, and what the situation is," as well as anxiety about "why I can't take this tactical vest off."
Quill blinked, then turned to Shendu: "This...this is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new biotechnology? Unmanned...chickens?"
The Holy Lord did not answer; he sensed a peculiar energy fluctuation.
That was the energy fluctuation of the monkey talisman.
One end of the energy is connected to "Agent Chicken," and the other end is connected to Quill's mother.
"it……"
Quill's mother's voice trembled: "It was a person just now, hiding outside our fence, looking in here with binoculars."
"I was so scared, I thought he was a bad guy, so I just wanted him to leave, and then... and then he turned out like this."
The tip of the Holy Lord's tail twitched slightly.
The trouble is big.
She turned the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent into a rooster.
Moreover, the rooster was wearing miniature tactical gear, which made his explanation even more difficult.
But the Holy Lord knew very well that the Monkey Talisman did not have the function of shrinking equipment.
An eerie silence fell over the courtyard.
Only the rooster on the side occasionally turned its head and stared at them with its eyes. It had now come to terms with the situation, and its eyes were filled with despair, thinking, "How many reports will I have to write when I get back?"
Quill scratched his head, looking at the rooster in the yard: "What... what's going on? The Chitauri's technology can turn people into chickens?"
The Holy Lord paused for a second, closed his eyes as if sensing the surrounding energy, and then explained, "It's radiation."
Quill and his mother both looked at him.
"Radiation from the Chitauri remains."
The Holy Lord continued without changing his expression: "That wasn't ordinary radiation. The wild boar ate the wreckage, and the radiation spread throughout the area when it exploded."
"This radiation caused...temporary expression at the gene level."
The Holy Lord looked at the "scout chicken" with a certainty in his voice: "It must have been watching this place when the radiation was at its peak, and its genes were affected, resulting in a reversion to its ancestral traits."
The courtyard was quiet for a few more seconds.
Quill asked with a hint of doubt, "Really?"
The Holy Lord nodded solemnly: "I am very familiar with this mutation. I should have told you before that I used to be human."
The rooster crowed loudly a few times, sounding like a string of profanities.
Quill crouched down and carefully examined the rooster in front of him: "Then why is he still wearing clothes?"
"The clothes have shrunk," the Holy Lord said without hesitation. "The Chitauri's radiation technology could potentially affect non-living matter, but the probability is very small."
The rooster covered his eyes with his wings.
Quill's mother slowly loosened her grip on her son's hand, the fear on her face fading somewhat, replaced by guilt: "Then... what do we do now? Should we help it?"
"No need," the Holy Lord said decisively. "Intervention might prolong the effects of the radiation. Just leave it to S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm sure they'll be very interested in it."
The Holy Lord paused, then added, "Put it in a quiet place; chickens... are easily startled."
The rooster raised its head and stared at the Holy Lord with an expression that seemed to say, "Do I look like someone who can be easily startled?"
The Holy Lord ignored it, turned and walked into the house, his tail swaying gently behind him as he silently calculated the time.
The reason given as radiation effects can only be used for 24 hours at most. After 24 hours, S.H.I.E.L.D. will definitely discover something unusual.
During this time, he needs to find a reason to continue or retrieve the monkey charm.
Quill reassured his mother and repeatedly assured her that the "agent chicken" would be alright before returning to New York with the Holy Lord.
The cleanup operation in Lower Manhattan continues, and S.H.I.E.L.D. has set up a temporary command center in the core area for efficiency.
"To be honest," Quill said in a low voice as he picked up a piece of blue-glowing metal with special pliers, "I think your theory about radiation and atavism is a bit far-fetched. Although my mom believes it, I don't completely believe it."
The Holy Lord used his tail to pick up a piece of debris and accurately dropped it into the sorting bin: "The important thing is that she believed."
"And what about the rooster? I'm sure it didn't believe me either." Quill recalled the look the rooster gave the Holy Lord when it left.
"Whether it believes it or not is not important," the Holy Lord said, throwing another piece of debris into the box. "There are still 12 hours left. After 12 hours, it will turn back to normal, and then it will start to doubt whether its experience that night was real or not."
Quill was about to say something when he was interrupted by the sound of an engine approaching from afar.
A red and gold armored vehicle pierced the night sky, landing steadily in front of them with the signature roar of its thrusters.
The mask was lifted, revealing Tony Stark's face behind it, his expression unusually serious.
"Peter Quill, and..."
His gaze lingered on Shendu for two seconds: "Mr. Valon."
The Holy Lord nodded slightly: "Mr. Stark."
"No need for formalities." Tony walked straight over after landing, holding a tablet computer in his hand.
The screen displayed a photograph of the rooster wearing a miniature tactical vest: "I need an explanation. What's going on here?"
Quill looked at the Holy Lord.
The Holy Lord remained unfazed: "The abnormal gene expression caused by the radiation from the Chitauri remains was already present when we found it at the scene."
"radiation?"
Tony raised an eyebrow: "I scanned the radiation spectrum across the entire region, and there wasn't a single radiation that could be linked to turning people into chickens, and..."
Tony zoomed in on the photo: "What's with this tactical vest? Synchronized shrinkage? What kind of radiation can do that?"
The tip of the Holy Lord's tail twitched almost imperceptibly: "The Chitauri's technology is different from the physical rules we know. The wreckage may contain residual energy from space folding technology, which affected non-living matter under certain conditions."
Tony stared into Shendu's eyes, trying to find some clue.
"You know what," Tony slowly put away the tablet, "I've met quite a few talking animals in my life, but you're one of the rarest, where every sentence seems to have been drafted three times in advance."
Tony leaned closer: "That agent has been with S.H.I.E.L.D. for six years and has performed well."
"Twelve hours ago, he was on a surveillance mission, and then he turned into a chicken. And you," his gaze shifted between the Holy Lord and Quill, "appeared in that house at exactly that time."
