Chapter 61 Carol Enters the Game
Chapter 61 Carol Enters the Game
After Natasha left the hideout with Fury, she said, "Fury, I think Carol is right. We need to take the initiative, but you can't go."
Fury turned his head, narrowing his eyes: "What do you mean? You want me to be a cowardly lizard?"
Natasha explained, "You are currently wanted by the military, and your presence in public would only add unpredictable elements to the operation."
Natasha looked Fury up and down: "You've already been controlled by Shendu before. We can't be sure if Shendu can continue to control you now. I know the possibility is very small, but just in case, to prevent you from becoming his bargaining chip."
Carol listened and nodded; this explanation had convinced her, but Fury remained silent for a long time.
After a while, Fury spoke up: "You make a good point, but I need a way to stay informed about the battle situation at any time."
"I'll do it."
Natasha said decisively, "I'll take Carol to find the Holy Lord. You wait here for news. Steve will stay here with you."
Fury fell silent again. Now he needed someone he could trust. He had suspected Natasha before, but the king's warning had dispelled that suspicion. Now she was indeed the best choice, someone he could completely trust.
"Are you sure?" Fury asked.
Natasha: "In a sense, this is what I owe you, and now I'm just paying back the debt."
Fury narrowed his eyes. He knew that the debt Natasha was talking about was different from what he understood. Natasha had always been someone who didn't like owing favors to others, and this only reinforced her status as the most suitable candidate.
Fury finally nodded.
"The Holy Lord is currently at Stark Tower," Fury said. "That's his stronghold for now, but the Mind Stone is in his possession. The extent of his control over the Mind Stone is unknown, and getting close will require..."
"Keep your distance," Natasha said to Carol after speaking, "We'll leave in twenty minutes."
Carol looked up at the sky: "No need. Tell me about the unknown, and I can get there in an instant."
“We need to make some preparations, and,” Natasha glanced at Fury, “some details are easier to discuss on the way.”
Carol did not refuse and got into the car that had been prepared. As Natasha passed Steve, a small part of their shadows split off and sank into the ground.
As Carol and the others left, Steve stood beside Fury and said, "Your mental state is very unstable right now; you need to rest."
Fury sighed, "I can't rest now. I need to know the news from the Holy Lord as soon as possible."
"I'll keep watch here," Steve said. "You go rest next door. I'll let you know as soon as Natasha sends the message. No matter how soundly you're sleeping, I'll wake you up."
Fury hesitated for a moment: "Two hours. Wake me up in two hours, whether there's news or not."
"Okay," Steve agreed readily.
Before Fury went next door, he suddenly remembered something and asked, "Steve, why did you choose to stay, even though you already know how many stupid things I've done?"
Steve smiled. "Because I trust you, just like Clinton, who's hiding somewhere keeping watch right now."
Fury chuckled self-deprecatingly at the reason: "Thank you for your trust."
Twenty minutes ago, at the Holy of Holies.
The mirror space of the King and Mordo is ready, and various magic circles have been set up in the card mirror space.
"king."
Mordo whispered through the communication array, "The barrier is complete, but I have one more question."
"explain."
"If Fury's reinforcements are indeed at the energy level shown in the data, this barrier will last for a maximum of one minute."
After a moment of silence, Wang said, "One minute is enough. Leave what happens within one minute to the Holy Lord."
"There's one more thing," Mordo said, "the Mind Stone."
"Now is not the time to consider this situation. Focus on doing your job well first." After saying this, the Holy Lord cut off the communication.
The Holy Lord sat on the throne with his eyes closed.
His subconscious is currently in darkness, and the Observer's restrictions deepen every time he uses the Mind Stone or a spell blessed by the Mind Stone. He is currently dealing with those restrictions.
Now, the monkey, rat, and snake talismans have some marks on them, especially the rat talisman, which has some visible fine cracks.
The Holy Lord opened his eyes and slowly exhaled a breath of stale air.
"Master, are you alright?" Wanda asked with concern, standing beside the Holy Lord.
"It's nothing serious," the Holy Lord said calmly.
"Wanda, I need you to do something," the Lord said.
Wanda knelt down, her tone devout: "As long as it's within my power, whatever it may be, as long as Master needs it, Wanda will not hesitate."
The Holy Lord nodded in satisfaction: "When I use my power, your chaos magic will feel a violent fluctuation. It's not something I'm doing on purpose. No matter what happens, don't interrupt your output."
"I will, Master," Wanda said devoutly. "I will not stop."
A shadow appeared at the Holy Lord's feet, and the Holy Lord's lips curled up: "The fish has taken the bait."
Natasha's car weaved through the streets of Harmanton, while Carole sat in the passenger seat with her arms crossed, glancing frequently at the pedestrians outside.
"You look very relaxed," Carol said first, looking at Natasha with a scrutinizing expression.
"Relax? I'm doing the math."
"Settle the accounts?"
"Fury saved my life. He can't come this time, so I'll take you to see the Holy Lord to settle the score," Natasha said calmly.
Carroll withdrew her scrutinizing gaze: "The motive is reasonable."
The SUV turned onto a narrow road; the vehicle was an old warehouse.
"This doesn't look like the way to Stark Tower," Carroll's voice turned somber.
"That's definitely not it." Natasha slammed on the gas, and the car drove straight into the warehouse.
"You're not one of Fury's men, don't try anything funny." Carol didn't make a move, but her tone was confident: "Here, no one is my match, not even your master."
Natasha smiled, and her body transformed before Carol's eyes, eventually becoming a ninja in a black bodysuit, turning into a shadow and merging into the ground in front of Carol.
Carol watched this scene and sneered, "It seems there's something fishy going on around Fury. That guy named Steve must be one of their men too."
"However, it's all just a useless psychological comfort."
Carol unleashed a burst of energy, took a deep breath, and her voice, amplified by the energy, echoed nearby: "Before absolute power, everything is illusory. Don't think your tricks will work on me."
