Chapter 51: Why is it another report?
Chapter 51: Why is it another report?
"Klein...do you believe in an evil god?"
"what?"
God knows what Klein was thinking when he heard Leonard say those words.
Thanks to the Joker's unique ability to control his facial expressions, he didn't show any strange expressions.
He managed a weak smile and looked at his two teammates.
"How could I possibly believe in an evil god?"
"Why would you think that?"
After exchanging a glance with Leonard, Frye answered:
"Like I said, someone reported you."
"And it's the kind that specifically names names."
"Report?" Klein was somewhat shocked.
He didn't understand why it was another report!
If we include the time he first transmigrated here, he has already been reported twice in a short period of time.
Seeing the silence fall, Fry spoke up to explain.
"Here's the thing, the whistleblower received two reports yesterday, one of which concerned Old Neil. Based on the clues in the whistleblower's report, the whistleblower located Old Neil's home and confirmed that the information in the report was correct."
Frye turned to face Klein.
"The other one concerns you, Klein."
"The whistleblower letter states that your behavior is unusually strange and that you have been performing bizarre rituals without permission."
So that's how it is... Klein started racking his brains to defend himself.
"When I first entered the realm of the extraordinary, I was indeed curious about some rituals, but I only performed legitimate occult rituals."
"As a night watchman, it's perfectly reasonable for me to practice some magical rituals."
Frye didn't make any statement but continued.
"These are not the main points. The most important thing is that the whistleblower letter says that you possess power bestowed by an unknown entity."
Does the absence of a name refer to a fool?
Or perhaps it was that gray fog... Klein panicked upon hearing this news.
……
Frye didn't mention this in person, so he probably still believes me.
Klein's mind raced, and he quickly came up with an explanation.
"There must be some misunderstanding. How could I, as a night watchman, possibly believe in an evil god?"
Moreover, the people from the Holy Temple had just been here; if something were truly amiss, the "Sword of the Goddess" couldn't possibly have missed it.
Frye nodded upon hearing Klein's words, but his brow remained furrowed; clearly, he had become more cautious after experiencing so many unexpected events.
"It must really just be a misunderstanding."
Upon hearing this, Klein was somewhat pleased.
"but……"
"The Sanctuary is only here to check your potion-making skills; the rest may be..."
"Of course, I'm not doubting you."
Frye's concerns were not unfounded, even though Klein had previously revealed the existence of the Acting Method to them.
And it even passed the church's test, but what if it doesn't?
Klein's mastery of potions was incredibly fast; no normal Night Watcher could reach that speed, not even the genius Daly.
This is really counterintuitive.
Moreover, what if the knowledge about potions wasn't something he figured out himself, but rather something a mysterious being told him?
Because of this possibility, Frye had to be cautious.
"Perhaps we could request a more detailed and comprehensive examination," he said after a moment's thought.
"The people who took the punishment know about this, so we still have to do something about it."
No… Klein cried out in his heart.
Last time, I might have been lucky, or perhaps I simply didn't catch some problems.
If a thorough examination were conducted, it would be hard to say.
Klein was somewhat apprehensive about the so-called comprehensive examination; he wasn't sure if there were any methods that could examine memories and the soul.
If it's true, then his time travel can't be kept a secret. This is his biggest secret, and if it's found out, things will be completely unpredictable.
"Damn it, who reported me? How am I any kind of follower of an evil god? I'm clearly... cough cough, just a poor fool."
Besides, did I do anything strange?
I simply died and was resurrected once.
I simply didn't report my special circumstances.
I simply hosted a private party.
I was just deceiving a young noblewoman.
Um... he doesn't really sound like a good person.
But I didn't do anything bad!
Why was I reported?
Thinking about this, Klein was on the verge of collapse. In this awkward atmosphere, he was rapidly considering all the possibilities.
Could it be... that the Fool's identity has been exposed as a lie? Who could it be?
Miss Justice probably wouldn't.
"The Sun"? Klein thought of the little "Sun" who had recently joined the Tarot Club... well... never mind, he's even more clueless than Miss "Justice".
If the problem really was within the Tarot Club, he could only think of one person after much thought.
The Hanged Man!
Klein thought of the Tarot Club member who seemed very experienced.
If the "Hanged Man" only appears respectful on the surface, but actually harbors malicious intentions...
Although Klein was quite confident in his acting skills, it wasn't impossible that the experienced "Hanged Man" might actually see through something.
An awkward silence fell over the room again.
Seeing this, Leonard wanted to say something for Klein, but just as he was about to speak, he suddenly remembered the night Antigonus's Notebook was stolen, how Klein, despite being under the control of '2-049', managed to escape safely on his own.
Thinking of this, he swallowed the words that were about to come out.
"Hey, there's no need to be so nervous. I believe Klein didn't betray the goddess, right?" Looking at Klein beside him, Frye forced a smile.
"Yes, that's right, how could I possibly believe in an evil god?"
"Actually, there's no definitive answer to this," Fry continued.
"Although the whistleblower letter said that some of Klein's actions were suspicious, unlike Old Neil, there was no substantial evidence for these allegations."
"So, don't be nervous," Frye and Leonard exchanged a glance and continued.
"But since the person who took the punishment knows about this, we still need to go through some necessary formalities."
"Klein, it's getting late. Why don't you stay at the company tonight?"
"You used to be so close to old Neil."
"I'll keep Old Neil company tonight. I'll comfort him; I'm afraid he might do something that everyone will regret in a moment of despair."
"Who's going to comfort me? Aren't you afraid I'll do something rash?" Klein suddenly felt a bit overwhelmed.
Before leaving, Frye specifically told him this.
"Don't worry, we will prove your innocence."
No, if they investigate seriously, I'm afraid they might actually find something... Klein forced a smile and waved goodbye to them.
"Snap!"
Old Neil stared blankly at the open cell.
"Old Neil, I was worried you'd be lonely, so I came to keep you company."
Looking at old Neil in front of him, Klein forced a smile.
At the same time, he was shouting in his heart.
How could anyone commit such a malicious act as reporting someone?
Let's have a one-on-one fight if you dare!
But for Klein, tonight wasn't without its rewards, because the unexpected report incident caused his "Clown" potion to be digested much faster.
