Chapter 27 Finding a Way Out
Chapter 27 Finding a Way Out
"Go find the Floating Sleeping Dragon? Do you want to investigate this monster further and gather more information?"
"no."
"So you want to investigate its nest and observe its lifestyle?"
"No, not exactly."
"It's neither this nor that, I get it! You must be trying to give it a warning, to subconsciously let it know that humans are not to be trifled with, to prevent its offspring from bullying humans in the future, right?"
Harley turned around, her gaze dangerous, like an angry little black panther.
"There aren't that many reasons. It almost made me suffer a huge loss yesterday, and I'm determined to get my revenge today."
Chen Yan was taken aback.
"Is that what you call a reason?"
"Otherwise, you don't really think I've survived this long, all by myself, in this invisibility suit, just because of it, do you?"
When Harley got serious, she rarely showed the aura of an elite hunter.
Chen Yan almost forgot that as a well-known lone wolf in the fourth generation of the group, she would leave for half a month or even half a year each time, and every time she came back, she would bring back some incredible material. She was quite a famous and powerful figure.
"Boss, we almost got sent flying by a ceratopsian. When are you going to go after it and settle the score?"
Harley choked, her momentum faltered, and she glared at Chen Yan angrily.
"You think I wouldn't dare! A mere horned dragon... but I have things to do tomorrow... the day after tomorrow... the day after that... and the day after that too..."
"I...I'm just not ready yet. A horned dragon...that's a horned dragon! You think it's some random roadside monster?! I need to be ready before I go..."
"Besides, a gentleman takes revenge even after ten years, so a lady can take revenge even after twenty years!"
Chen Yan nodded hurriedly, counting on his fingers: "Twenty years. Can a horned dragon live for twenty years? If you dig up its grave then, it'll be a form of revenge..."
"Say it again! Say it again!"
Harley was furious. She pulled out an unidentified object from her pocket and tried to smear it on Chen Yan's face. The strange smell made Chen Yan dodge repeatedly.
This must be some kind of family secret medicine of hers.
The two people and the cat followed the guide worm's lead and wandered around until they found themselves back at the small oasis where they had caught the worm.
Seeing Harley carefully examining her surroundings, Chen Yan couldn't help but speak up.
"Hey boss, yesterday when you were up there you were pressing me about why I was digging up bugs to feed the Sand Dragons, why aren't you saying a word about it today?"
She didn't turn around, she just waved casually.
"You have your secrets, and I have mine. You can tell me yours when I'm ready to share mine."
"Also, actually I didn't intend to ask you this yesterday in heaven. It's just that you looked unwell and your forehead was bluish. I really thought you were sick. It's a pity that I had the special medicine in my hand."
Hearing Harley's candid answer, Chen Yan immediately felt ashamed of his petty thinking.
Is this the boss's magnanimity? It's so touching, you bastard!
Just as Chen Yan was about to prostrate himself in worship and completely switch from the Naomi Cult to the Harley Cult, he caught a glimpse of Harley's slightly trembling shoulders out of the corner of his eye.
Chen Yan was stunned, a feeling of being ripped off lingering in his mind. If there were a color to describe it, this rip-off would at least be a bright blue or a pale gold.
Chen Yan quickly stepped forward, grabbed her shoulder, and then turned her to face him. Sure enough, Harley's eyebrows danced, and she covered her mouth tightly with her small hand, clearly about to burst into laughter.
She wasn't embarrassed when Chen Yan discovered her, but her eyes were filled with confusion.
"Huh, that's strange. How did you find out? Mom said she used this trick back then to really boost Dad's favorability!"
"Damn it, give me back my feelings of being touched!"
Chen Yan shook her shoulders frantically until she begged for mercy repeatedly.
After a while, the two continued to venture deeper into the oasis. The deeper they went, the quieter it became. Chen Yan slowly stepped down, but this time it seemed like he had stepped on something hard. He reached out and picked up a small piece of dragon scale.
After wiping away the withered branches and leaves stuck to it, Chen Yan discovered that the dragon scales, now only the size of a palm, were actually pink.
"Pink Rathalos scales?"
He looked around expectantly, but found no other traces.
"I almost forgot, these few months are the breeding season for Rathalos. Even if there are Pink Rathian, they should be looking for a mate in the Ancient Forest or the Coral Highlands..."
After casually tossing away the scales and making a gesture, Flower Cat stopped and began setting up flash traps in several hidden spots.
Chen Yan gently parted the grass stems that were half a person tall, his gaze sweeping around before finally settling on a huge, dead tree stump. He remembered that the dung monster seemed to live inside it.
Meanwhile, the guide worms hovered nearby, their color gradually changing.
He gestured to Harley, who was half a step behind him. Harley squeezed his hand on his shoulder for a moment, then let go, wrapped herself tightly in her invisibility cloak, and disappeared silently into the shade of the trees.
Chen Yan took a deep breath, drew his katana, aimed it at the wooden stake, and suddenly roared.
"Floating Dragon, come out and fight me for another three hundred rounds!"
Chen Yan was met with a rapid dragon roar.
A large plume of milky-white hypnotic gas erupted from the wooden stake. Several wild winged birds were enveloped in the hypnotic mist and collapsed to the ground unconscious within seconds. Chen Yan was prepared and dodged repeatedly, barely avoiding the first wave of hypnotic mist.
The expanding slumbering mist suddenly contracted, and then a dark shadow, carrying the mist, rushed out and slammed into Chen Yan.
He swung his sword in retaliation, delivering a powerful blow to the Floating Dragon's air sac, but the blade was deflected by the highly elastic, soft fur, causing little damage other than scraping off a patch of black hair.
Having failed with his first strike, he had no choice but to retreat before the sleeping mist could spread further.
Only now did the Floating Dragon realize that it was Chen Yan who had disturbed its rest. Thinking of his headbutt yesterday, its already ferocious face became even more terrifying.
The headprint left on its side fur from the collision hasn't faded yet!
Chen Yan faced relatively little pressure in his one-on-one fight against the Floating Sleeping Dragon.
After all, it is not good at flying, its flight speed is slow, and its maneuvering is not flexible at all. As long as you don't fight it in a small space, its most dangerous hypnotic gas will hardly form a large area of sleeping fog.
As for the other moves, they were only a few in number, so Chen Yan fought and retreated, quickly leading it to the first ambush point.
After Chen Yan rolled over again to avoid its hypnotic bubble, he turned around and ran behind a tree and disappeared.
The Floating Dragon, which had a clear advantage, naturally pursued closely. But just as it drifted past, what appeared in front of it was not Chen Yan, but a bug cage hand-woven by Flower Cat.
Before it could react, the plump, flashing-winged beetle exploded in fright, the blinding light instantly blinding the Floating Dragon.
The Floating Dragon roared, its eyes tightly shut, large tears streaming down its face. Disoriented, it flapped its wings wildly, trying to fly upwards but wobbling left and right before crashing headfirst into the ground.
Chen Yan and Hua Miao were waiting for it to land.
A human and a cat attacked from the left and right respectively. Even faster than them was a sharp crossbow bolt that flew by. The bolt, specially designed for armor penetration, pierced directly into the air sac in its neck, creating an opening in the furry balloon.
Chen Yan roared and swung his sword at the base of the Floating Sleeping Dragon's tail. Compared to its air sac with its built-in deflection function, its tail was easier to cut.
Flower Cat, on the other hand, had its sights set on the wings of the Floating Sleep Dragon.
"If I can't cut your skin, I can still cut your wings/tail!"
However, the Floating Dragon's tail and wings are not so easy to cut. Its flat tail is covered with dark red gelatinous carapace, and the blade gets stuck after cutting in half an inch. The wings have four hard toe bones, and the blade is bounced out by the bone after cutting in only a finger's depth.
Although the attack by the human and the cat was quite imposing, the damage was too low, even less than Harley's arrow.
