Chapter 24 Blood in the Well
Chapter 24 Blood in the Well
As soon as Sun Rui walked downstairs, Qin Qiuyun's scream reached his ears.
"Ah! A ghost...a ghost!"
He looked in the direction of the sound and saw Qin Qiuyun washing vegetables and other ingredients by the sink. What made her scream was the red blood flowing from the tap.
"Sun...Sun Rui, can you catch ghosts?" Qin Qiuyun heard Sun Rui coming downstairs and quickly ran behind him.
Sun Rui frowned, walked to the pool, picked up his finger, rubbed some bloody water in front of his nose, and smelled it.
"This is not ordinary blood."
The blood had a chilling quality, mixed with the stench of a corpse, but its color wasn't dark; on the contrary, it was the same as fresh human blood.
"Where did this water come from?" Sun Rui asked.
"There's a well in the village, and everyone uses the water from it," Qin Qiuyun said crisply, her face somewhat pale.
"A well? I didn't see it yesterday?"
"It was a dark well. Years ago, fearing that children might fall in, the village decided to seal the well opening."
Sun Rui stroked his chin. This blood was composed of supernatural power, and it must be some kind of supernatural leakage. This thing was very likely in the well in the village.
"Take me there."
"Is there something wrong with the well? Should we run away?"
"You can run if you want, but you have to lead me to that well first," Sun Rui said, glancing at Qin Qiuyun, whose legs were trembling with fear.
"Okay, but can you protect me?"
"No, take me to the well. After that, you can leave whenever you want. I won't stop you," Sun Rui said coldly.
Qin Qiuyun nodded. She still hoped that Sun Rui could solve the problem here, since she had no home anywhere else.
Just as the two were leaving, the couple from before rushed in with two police officers.
"Officer, it's him! He has a gun. I suspect he's a murderer. He just threatened us, saying we must arrest him!" the middle-aged woman shouted, pointing at Sun Rui.
Qin Qiuyun whispered a few words in his ear, and Sun Rui learned the names of the two people: the woman was named Lin Cuilan and the man was named Wang Shouye.
"I seem to recall saying there wouldn't be a next time," Sun Rui said coldly, staring at Lin Cuilan.
Lin Cuilan felt a little uneasy under his gaze: "Who are you trying to scare? You'll be heading to jail soon."
"Sir, please cooperate with the investigation," Zhong Hang said to Sun Rui, one hand on his waist.
Sun Rui turned to the two policemen and said, "Didn't you receive orders? I said no one is allowed to come to Luoshan Village."
Zhong Hang was taken aback: "Sir, we haven't received the kind of message you're talking about."
Sun Rui narrowed his eyes. Had something changed in Luoshan Village again?
He took out his identification, and the two policemen looked at him warily. After carefully checking his identification, they confirmed that he was legally allowed to carry a gun.
"Sorry, we need to check again." Zhong Hang picked up his phone to make a call, but found that his phone had no signal at all.
He tried several more times, but still got no signal.
"There's no need to try anymore; this place has already been affected by the power of the vengeful spirit," Sun Rui said.
He took out his satellite-guided phone, which was specially made of gold and would not be affected by evil spirits. He had just dialed the headquarters and contacted the director of the Baihua Town branch. Since two police officers had come, they could be considered helpers.
A roar came from the phone: "What are you two doing? You didn't reply to my messages!"
Zhong Hang recognized the voice as that of the bureau chief; this person was actually able to contact the bureau chief directly.
Before he could explain, the bureau chief on the phone continued, "From now on, you must unconditionally obey Mr. Sun's orders, understand?"
"Yes, sir!" the two policemen replied loudly.
"There's no time to explain the situation now. Just follow my instructions." Sun Rui hung up the call.
Zhong Hang and the other nodded. Although they didn't know what had happened, the person in front of them was definitely special.
"You two take the hoes, Qin Qiuyun, lead the way," Sun Rui said.
As for the couple, they'll either die in this paranormal event or live out their lives in prison.
Murder? Sun Rui felt it was a waste of his special bullets.
He and a few others grabbed their tools and headed straight out the door, completely ignoring the terrified couple.
By this time, the area outside the door was already filled with villagers watching the show.
"Mr. Sun, do you want to disperse the crowd?" Zhong Hang asked.
"No need, this is fine." Sun Rui felt it was better to gather everyone together; if they were scattered, they wouldn't even know when the vengeful ghost started killing people.
This matter was far more complicated than he had initially thought. How could a vengeful ghost possess so many abilities, unless the puzzle pieces of this vengeful ghost were exceptionally complete?
The group walked out of the crowd and headed straight for the location of the dark well in the village.
The approximate location of the well was easy to find, but what Sun Rui didn't expect was that the well was actually right behind the ancestral hall.
It's completely bare here, without any plants to cover it, not even a single weed, which is very unusual.
"Has it always been like this here?" Sun Rui asked.
"No, that's not it. There were always some weeds here before, since the village only came to clear the weeds once every now and then," Qin Qiuyun said.
Sun Rui nodded and pointed to a spot: "Dig this place up."
"How did you know the well was in this location?" Qin Qiuyun asked, somewhat puzzled.
Sun Rui wasn't just making things up; he sensed a different atmosphere here, or rather, the peculiar stench of corpses from last night's smog.
The others seemed not to smell it at all.
"Is it targeting ghost tamers? Or is it because my ghost is special?" Sun Rui wondered to himself.
Before long, Zhong Hang and his companion unearthed a bluestone slab, which the villagers had placed on the wellhead earlier.
The two men used their strength to move the two bluestone slabs apart, and a stench wafted out of the well.
Sun Rui looked closely and saw that the well was filled with the carcasses of livestock. Now he finally knew where the missing animals from the village had gone.
As he approached the well, he felt a slight chill: "No wonder no one noticed before; with such a low temperature, the rate of corpse decomposition would slow down."
"Should we retrieve these bodies?" Zhong Hang asked.
"No need, that would waste too much time," Sun Rui said.
He picked up his satellite phone, turned on the flashlight, and shone it inside.
The animal carcasses in the well were piled up one on top of another, and all of them had the same characteristic: they were shriveled up as if all the blood had been sucked out.
"Why is that? So many animals have died, but only Li Maolin has died as a person." A look of seriousness flashed across Sun Rui's face.
"Go get some gasoline from the police car and burn these bodies," Sun Rui said after thinking for a moment.
"Okay, I'll go," Zhong Hang nodded and said.
He left quickly and returned quickly, carrying a bucket filled with gasoline he had taken from the police car.
"There are no other containers, so we have to use this one," Zhong Hang said.
Sun Rui nodded, not paying attention to these details: "Pour the gasoline in, making sure it soaks the bodies completely."
Zhong Hang and his companions began slowly pouring gasoline into the well.
At this moment, the villagers also gathered over here. No one dared to step forward to stop them, because they had just witnessed this sickly man make two policemen obediently listen to him with just one phone call.
After the gasoline was poured, at Sun Rui's signal, Zhong Hang took out a lighter and set the body on fire.
There was no large fire as expected. The flames in the well seemed to be affected by something, remaining at a moderate size, which was very strange.
