Chapter 50, the first letter on the second floor.
Chapter 50, the first letter on the second floor.
Sun Rui led the two away from the unfinished building; he needed to prepare for his mission to deliver the message.
Time flies, and a few days passed in the blink of an eye. Sun Rui did not wander around during this time, but stayed quietly in Dahan City, which relieved Zhao Jianguo.
Lin Zhensheng ultimately chose to go with Sun Yan to deliver the message. No one knows how Sun Yan managed to fool them. The day before yesterday, there was still news of the two of them, but after that last message, Sun Rui never received any more news.
Sun Rui had investigated the mail delivery location and found nothing special about it. In fact, the apartment building was also known as the "Longevity Apartment" because many elderly people lived there, and they were all quite old. However, Sun Rui's investigation revealed that this was entirely a publicity stunt by the apartment owner to make the apartment building more expensive.
"I don't know what happened there. We haven't received any information about any paranormal events yet." Sun Rui drove around the city of Dahan.
During this time, he received a lot of news. Yang Jian had returned to Dachang City, the situation in ZS City was deteriorating further, the human head balloon incident had caused panic in ZS City, and Tong Qian still had no contact with him.
In the past few days, paranormal events have been increasing across the country, and the first person Zhao Jianguo thought of was Sun Rui. However, Sun Rui declined all the offers because he had made contributions to the headquarters, and the headquarters couldn't push him too hard. They could only ask him to pay more attention to the situation in Dahan City.
Around 4 p.m., Sun Rui returned to his office after completing his routine patrol.
"It should be today." He sat in his office chair, quietly waiting for the Ghost Post Office to arrive.
He had asked Lin Zhensheng before, and the room he had stayed in on the second floor before was room number 23. He hadn't encountered any special situations and it was very safe, so Sun Rui decided to stay in that room.
There shouldn't be many people in the Ghost Post Office right now. At least he's the only messenger on the second floor. It's unclear about the first floor yet, but the number of missing persons in Dahan City is still increasing, which proves that the Ghost Post Office's mechanism for recruiting new members is still in effect.
When the clock on the wall pointed to 5:30, the ghost post office's guide arrived quickly.
Sun Rui walked along the path and successfully entered the Ghost Post Office, arriving at the lobby.
The walls of the hall were covered with several oil paintings, some of which depicted portraits, others strange buildings, or eerie objects. For example, in one of the paintings, Sun Rui saw a picture of a severed hand sticking out of the ground.
Walking in the hall, the surrounding oil paintings seemed to be staring at you, which made Sun Rui very uncomfortable, but he did not react, because he knew that each portrait oil painting represented the portrait left by the messengers who had passed the five levels of testing of the post office.
Once someone clears all five floors of the post office, they can choose to revive a person from a painting. Doing so will allow you to return to the first floor and start delivering mail again. Of course, this is not the only option. You can also choose to become the owner of the post office, but the price is that you can never leave the post office.
Those eerie paintings all represent vengeful ghosts.
Aside from the oil paintings, two people stood in the hall, both looking bewildered.
The two men looked wary as Sun Rui entered, because he didn't look like a living person. His face was frighteningly pale, his lips were almost bloodless, and he exuded an aura that kept strangers at bay.
"Do you know something?" one of the portly men asked. His name was Zhao Fuhai. Sun Rui glanced at the badge on his chest; he seemed to be a bank employee, and in a fairly high position.
Sun Rui ignored him and walked towards the stairs.
"I'm talking to you, are you deaf?" Zhao Fuhai stepped forward and blocked Sun Rui's way. "You look very familiar with this place. Did you bring us here? If so, then let me go right now. If I call the police, it will be too late."
"Get out of my way." Sun Rui glanced at him coldly.
Zhao Fuhai felt a chill run down his spine, but he still mustered his courage and said, "Let me tell you, this is a society governed by law. If you dare to do anything reckless, you'll be spending the rest of your life in jail!"
Sun Rui, rarely daring to waste words with him, kicked him squarely in the stomach, sending Zhao Fuhai flying like a kite with a broken string.
He walked towards the stairs to the second floor without turning his head.
The other person was completely stunned by what he saw. Was this the kind of power a human could possess? Zhao Fuhai looked to be at least 170 pounds, yet he was kicked five or six meters away.
Sun Rui disappeared before the man's astonished gaze.
"A ghost! A ghost!" the man cried out in terror.
Sun Rui had already arrived on the second floor.
Looking down from the second-floor atrium, you can't see the first floor. Each floor of the Ghost Post Office can be seen as a different haunted space, and the lobby is the place connecting these haunted spaces.
Without hesitation, Sun Rui went straight to room 23.
The wooden door was pushed open easily.
Sun Rui entered the room. There was no trace of anyone having lived there, because when the owner of the room died, the Ghost Post Office would restart the room and restore it to its original state.
He checked the corners of the room but found nothing unusual. Inside the Ghost Post Office, the ghost tamer's perception of vengeful spirits was basically ineffective, and he could only conduct inspections using the most primitive methods.
"It seems Lin Zhensheng wasn't lying; this room is indeed safe." Sun Rui felt relieved and half-reclined on the bed.
Time passed slowly, and the dim lights in the room suddenly came on. It was six o'clock, and the corridor outside the room was completely dark.
"Take a short rest tonight, but don't let your guard down," Sun Rui said with his eyes closed.
I wonder if the last mission to deliver the message from the second floor managed to get rid of that vengeful ghost.
According to Lin Zhensheng's description, he did not find any special people. It is possible that the vengeful ghost did not go out at all, but rather the ghost post office killed the messenger on the second floor.
We'll have to wait and see how things go tonight to make a judgment.
One hour... two hours... five hours... seven hours.
Sun Rui hadn't heard any noise outside the door; it was eerily quiet.
"It seems the Ghost Post Office's correction mechanism is still effective," he muttered to himself.
By increasing the danger level of the letters, some unsettling elements are eliminated. However, this method will eventually fail, as terrifying ghosts will eventually enter the Ghost Post Office.
Sun Rui remained in a semi-resting state until six o'clock in the morning.
Ding ding~
The satellite phone woke Sun Rui up.
On his bedside table, a yellowed letter appeared.
"It seems that the vengeful ghost on the second floor has indeed been eliminated." Sun Rui was now completely certain. Otherwise, this delivery mission would still be a red letter, and it wouldn't end until the vengeful ghost was eliminated.
He picked up the letter.
Several lines of bloody words appeared on the surface of the cabinet:
[1. Head to the gray brick apartment at 35 Silver Lake Avenue, California, USA]
2. Check into room 404 of the gray brick apartment.
[3. On the seventh day, deliver the letter to the true owner of the apartment.]
