Chapter 52: Racing and Accidents
Chapter 52: Racing and Accidents
As Jiang Rui watched Yu Chen and Nie Xiguang gliding side by side, Yu Chen's heroic rescue of the damsel in distress had completely ignited his competitive spirit.
Jiang Rui, carrying professional skis, rushed up to the two like a gust of wind, raising an eyebrow in a provocative manner: "Brother Yu, dare to have a race? Let's have a downhill race on the advanced slope!"
Nie Xiguang was startled and quickly grabbed him: "Jiang Rui! Advanced Dao is too dangerous, don't be silly."
"Don't worry, sis, I've been skiing the advanced slopes for years, I'm very steady!" Jiang Rui patted his chest, his eyes full of eagerness. "Brother Yu, if you're not brave enough, that's fine, but I heard you're a technical genius at the factory, you can't be bad at skiing, can you?"
Just as Yu Chen was about to respond, a cold, mechanical voice suddenly echoed in his mind:
[System Task Triggered - Ski Track Peak Speed Race]
[Mission Objective: Win first place in the advanced downhill race]
[Mission Rewards: 5000 Achievement Points, Skiing Skill upgraded to Master level, Unlock the "General Racing Skills (Advanced)" passive skill]
[Failure Penalty: None]
Yu Chen was taken aback for a moment, then a hint of interest flashed in his eyes.
The system arrived just in time; he not only had to win this match, but he had to win it spectacularly.
He raised an eyebrow, looking at the fighting spirit in the boy's eyes, and a confident smile appeared on his lips: "I'll play along to the end."
The conversation between the two attracted the attention of many people.
Lin Yusen had just finished a lap with Chris when he heard this, and walked over, his cool gaze sweeping across the snow as he said, "Downhill? Can I join you?"
Nie Xiguang was stunned. Even Lin Yusen was going to get involved?
She glanced at Yu Chen instinctively, her eyes filled with worry.
The advanced course has steep slopes and numerous curves, making racing quite risky.
"President Lin also does downhill racing?" Yu Chen was a little surprised. In his memory, Lin Yusen was always calm and rarely participated in such competitive activities.
"I'll try it once in a while," Lin Yusen replied casually, his tone devoid of much emotion. "The rules are simple: start from the advanced track and go to the finish line. The first one to cross the finish line wins."
Zhuang Xu also joined in, a confident smile on his face: "Since it's so lively, why not count me in? Engineer Yu is skilled, and General Manager Lin is experienced. It'll be good for me to learn from them."
Nie Xiguang felt a little uncomfortable, but he knew he couldn't stop them, so he could only remind them, "You must be careful, safety first, don't take it too seriously."
"Don't worry, sis!" Jiang Rui couldn't wait and ran towards the starting line of the advanced track. "I'll go save a spot!"
Yu Chen patted Nie Xiguang on the shoulder, his tone relaxed: "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
After saying that, he picked up his skis and followed, already quickly planning the course in his mind.
The skiing skills I had previously acquired naturally seeped into my senses.
The slope of the ski run, the angle of the curves, and even the softness and hardness of the snow were all clearly presented in my mind.
Lin Yusen and Zhuang Xu followed closely behind.
Chris walked over to Nie Xiguang and said with a smile, "I didn't expect them to suddenly start comparing themselves."
Her gaze remained fixed on Lin Yusen's retreating figure.
Nie Xiguang became even more nervous, his eyes fixed on Yu Chen, hoping he would win while also fearing something might happen to him.
The four people stopped at the starting point of the advanced course, attracting a lot of tourists to watch.
Jiang Rui was doing warm-up exercises, his eyes sharply fixed on the track ahead;
Lin Yusen stood still, his posture upright, seemingly just admiring the scenery, yet he exuded an invisible sense of oppression.
Zhuang Xu adjusted his ski bindings, glancing frequently at Yu Chen with obvious hostility.
Yu Chen, on the other hand, appeared much more composed. His intermediate skiing skills gave him an intimate knowledge of the course. He simply moved his joints, his eyes calm yet sharp.
"Are you ready?" Lin Yusen asked, his tone still calm.
"Anytime is fine!" Jiang Rui responded first, already in the starting position.
Zhuang Xu nodded: "I'm fine."
Yu Chen nodded: "Let's begin."
Without a starting pistol, Lin Yusen shouted "Go!" and the four of them simultaneously pushed off the ground, shooting off like arrows.
The advanced course has an extremely steep gradient, and the speed increases instantly on the straight section at the start.
Jiang Rui made aggressive moves and surged ahead to take the lead; Zhuang Xu was eager to overtake, but his rhythm became chaotic after several lane changes.
Lin Yusen proceeded steadily and precisely along the route;
Yu Chen's movements were incredibly smooth. His knees were slightly bent, his center of gravity shifted, and his skis cut into the ground at just the right angle. Although he didn't seem to have a fast start, he kept up step by step and quickly closed the gap.
The series of sharp turns in the middle of the track are key.
Jiang Rui rushed too fast and lost control of his speed when entering the bend. His body swayed violently and he almost overturned.
Zhuang Xu was eager to overtake, so he turned too sharply, his skis scraped the safety net, and his speed dropped drastically.
Lin Yusen, relying on his rich experience, smoothly navigated the corner, but Yu Chen's body leaned almost parallel to the snow surface. With a perfect drift, his snowboard drew a sharp arc, instantly overtaking Jiang Rui and taking the lead.
"Amazing!" exclaimed tourists on the observation deck.
Nie Xiguang's clenched fists finally loosened a little, and a relieved smile appeared on his face.
On the final, flat section of the track, Yu Chen and Lin Yusen engaged in a fierce competition.
The two were evenly matched, their figures flashing across the snow track, kicking up clouds of snow.
Just as he was about to cross the finish line, Yu Chen suddenly exerted force with his feet and crossed the finish line first with a slight advantage!
[Mission Completed! Rewards Issued: 5000 Achievement Points credited, Skiing Skill Master level unlocked, Racing Skills Universal (Advanced) activated]
"We won! Brother Yu won!" Jiang Rui shouted excitedly as he crossed the finish line right after him, completely disregarding his own ranking.
After crossing the finish line, Lin Yusen stopped steadily, his face still expressionless, but his eyes showed a more genuine approval as he looked at Yu Chen: "Not bad."
Zhuang Xu crossed the finish line last, his face grim, but he forced himself to remain calm: "Engineer Yu is indeed formidable. I accept my defeat wholeheartedly."
The resentment in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Yu Chen, panting and with snowflakes on his face, felt exhilarated by the sense of control brought by his master-level skills. He smiled and replied, "President Lin is also excellent."
Nie Xiguang rushed over and handed her a hot drink: "Are you alright? Did you hurt yourself?"
"It's alright, everything went smoothly." Yu Chen took the hot drink, his gaze falling on her worried face, feeling a warm glow in his heart.
Just then, a piercing scream shattered the noise of the ski resort.
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw Chris sliding down from the top of the advanced path. She was obviously worried about Lin Yusen and wanted to get over as soon as possible.
But a figure came speeding up from behind her. The person was so focused on chasing ahead that he didn't notice Chris at all. In the high-speed glide, his elbow slammed into the back of Chris's head!
Chris let out a muffled groan, instantly losing her balance. Her skis came off, and she crashed heavily onto the snow, where she remained motionless.
"Chris!" Lin Yusen's expression changed drastically, his cold demeanor crumbled instantly, and he rushed over.
Yu Chen and Nie Xiguang also felt a pang of anxiety and quickly followed.
Chris was lying face down on the snow, her forehead cut and bleeding, her eyes closed, her consciousness blurred, and she did not respond when called.
The onlookers were in chaos. Some tried to help, but Lin Yusen sternly stopped them: "Don't touch her! She may have suffered a head injury; moving her will only worsen her condition!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Yusen knelt on the snow, his aloofness gone, his eyes sharp and professional.
He quickly checked Chris's breathing and pulse, and lightly touched the back of her head and neck with his fingertips. His movements were precise and gentle, befitting a top doctor.
"There are signs of a mild concussion, a head injury, and no obvious signs of neck fracture at the moment." Lin Yusen spoke very quickly, but his tone was unusually calm. "Does anyone have a first-aid kit? Call 120 immediately and tell them it's a head injury and they need emergency help!"
Jiang Rui immediately pulled out his first-aid kit and handed it over. Nie Xiguang quickly took out his phone and dialed 120, his voice filled with anxiety: "Hello, at the end of the advanced slope at Changbai Mountain Ski Resort, someone has a head injury and is unconscious. Please come quickly!"
Lin Yusen took the first aid kit, skillfully unwrapped the gauze, and cleaned Chris's forehead wound with saline solution. His movements were gentle yet decisive, stopping the bleeding and bandaging in one go.
He knelt in the snow, his usual aloofness and detachment completely gone, replaced by the focus and responsibility of a doctor.
Chris let out a soft groan as he bandaged her, then slowly opened her eyes, her gaze unfocused. Looking at Lin Yusen, she weakly called out, "Yusen..."
"Don't speak, keep quiet." Lin Yusen's tone softened considerably, his eyes filled with rare concern. "The rescue team will be here soon. I'll take you to the hospital for a full checkup."
Chris looked at his face so close to hers, feeling the warmth of his fingertips and his steady breath. Her body, which had been tense from pain and fear, gradually relaxed, and a faint smile unconsciously appeared on her lips before she slowly closed her eyes.
Zhuang Xu, who was not far away, watched this scene with a complicated expression.
Jiang Rui, Nie Xiguang, and the others looked worried.
Soon, the ski resort's ambulance arrived, and paramedics lifted Chris onto a stretcher.
Lin Yusen followed closely behind, and before leaving, he turned back to Yu Chen and said, "Please keep an eye on this place. I'll contact you if anything happens."
"Go ahead without worry, Mr. Lin." Yu Chen nodded.
The ambulance sped away from the ski resort, and the snow returned to its usual bustling activity, but no one mentioned the race again.
Watching the ambulance disappear into the distance, Nie Xiguang said softly, "President Lin is so professional. Why do you think he changed careers?"
Yu Chen recalled Lin Yusen's demeanor when facing the injured earlier; it was a display of responsibility and gentleness completely different from his usual aloofness.
The sun was still shining brightly, and the ski slopes were still bustling with people, but everyone's mood had been subtly changed by this sudden turn of events.
"Because his hand was injured, he can no longer hold a scalpel."
But perhaps starting today, Lin Yusen will also begin to change.
