Chapter 105 Your men need some discipline.
Chapter 105 Your men need some discipline.
"Hi! Thank you for the reminder, Ms. Fujii!" Yan Shuo bowed again. "I'll be going up now, goodbye!"
"Goodbye! Matsumoto-kun, do your best! For the Great Japanese Empire!" Fujii Chinatsu raised her hand and gave a thumbs-up, her tone impassioned.
"Hey! For the Great Japanese Empire!" Yan Shuo responded in a deep voice, then turned and continued walking upstairs.
It was already late, and there were few pedestrians in the corridors of the office building, mostly Japanese military employees hurrying off work.
When they saw "Matsumoto Kin'an," their faces showed a hint of curiosity, since the kid had been missing for several days. But no one dared to ask any questions; they simply nodded and quickly left.
Yan Shuo scanned his surroundings warily, his steps never faltering as he walked toward the floor where the intelligence section was located.
Yan Shuo continued walking along the dimly lit corridor to the corner, where Matsumoto Takuma's office was indeed located.
As the adjutant of the intelligence section, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, his office location was indeed not considered good.
The officers' offices were all next to the stairwell for easy access, but his was tucked away in a corner. The doors and windows were old-fashioned lattice designs, with a layer of white paint covering the glass. You couldn't see anything inside from the outside, only the light shining through the window cracks. You could also sense the presence of three living people inside, chattering away.
"Perfect, saves me the trouble of searching one by one." A glint of light flashed in Yan Shuo's eyes as he pulled out an eavesdropping device from his pocket—the thing was no bigger than a mung bean, all black, and without any extra decorations.
He walked to the office door, pinched the small prop and slipped it through the crack in the door. With a slight push from his fingertips, the prop silently slid into the room.
After doing all this, Yan Shuo turned around and walked quickly to the toilet not far away. He chose the innermost stall, closed the door, sat on the toilet seat, took out his headphones, put them on, and turned the volume to a moderate level.
Clear conversations soon came through the earphones.
"Yoshioka-kun, how much longer until your people are back?" a slightly impatient voice rang out. "Haven't you called yet? It's already past closing time. Ximei must have already closed, right? Has something happened to your people? Why haven't you called?"
"That's right, say something if you haven't caught them or not!" another voice chimed in, its tone full of impatience. "Your men need to be disciplined!"
"Sakamoto, don't make things worse!" Yoshioka's voice was tinged with frustration. "I'm worried too!"
Yan Shuo raised an eyebrow. Yoshioka's men? They're probably Zhang Cheng and Ideichiro, whom he dealt with during the day.
"Do you have any agreed-upon phone numbers or other means of contact?" Another voice rang out, and judging from the tone, it should be Matsumoto Takuma.
"The personnel are in flux, we can't contact them!" Yoshioka sighed. "But Matsumoto-kun, wait a little longer, just one more hour, just one hour! If there's still no news, then it's basically bad news—our people are gone!"
"Holy crap!" Matsumoto Takuma's voice suddenly turned grim. "In that case, it means that woman named Meng Jia is 99% certain to be a Communist! And her continuous supply of goods to Wang Li must have been with the permission of that Liu Jie! Liu Jie must be arrested too! He's either a Communist or a Communist sympathizer, he deserves to die!"
Yan Shuo paused slightly upon hearing his alias, a cold smile playing on his lips—as expected, Meng Jia and Wang Li's deal had drawn the fire to him.
"Hey! Liu Jie, this guy's interesting!" Sakamoto's voice held a hint of amusement. "Haven't you noticed? He's been working with many officers in our Imperial Japanese Army. If we rashly arrest him, we'll probably be drowned in people pleading for him!"
"Then, should we inform General Ogino?" Yoshioka suggested. "If the general authorizes it, we can make a secret arrest!"
Ogino Kiyoshi!
Yan Shuo's heart skipped a beat. He was all too familiar with this name—the deputy director of the Mei Agency, a major general in the army, whose hands were stained with the blood of many anti-Japanese patriots. Moreover, this person had indeed dined with "Liu Jie" several times and even held a stake in his smuggling business.
"General Ogino? Are you kidding me?" Sakamoto scoffed, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Liu Jie has dined with General Ogino several times. What are you thinking? I bet General Ogino has a stake in all of Liu Jie's smuggling operations!"
"What a terrible idea Sakamoto-kun came up with!" Yoshioka retorted. "If you ask me, we should report it directly to General Doi-Yuan! General Doi-Yuan doesn't know Liu Jie, and they have no connection whatsoever!"
Fat and round!
Yan Shuo's eyes instantly sharpened.
Kenji Doihara, a Japanese general and one of the core figures of the Ume Agency, is ruthless and cunning. If you are targeted by him, you will be in big trouble.
"I didn't expect Bai Zhimin's intelligence to be so good, uncovering the source of Wang Li's military supplies transportation in one go!" Matsumoto Takuma's voice was filled with excitement. "I'll call and report to General Doi-Yuan right now!"
"Yamata!" Sakamoto hurriedly shouted to stop him.
"Hmm?" Matsumoto Takuma's voice was filled with doubt.
"You reported to General Doi-Yuan, how many ranks have you skipped?" Sakamoto lowered his voice, his tone serious. "Didn't you think about what Colonel Saeki Shinkai would do to you if he found out? According to the latest news, Colonel Saeki Shinkai is about to be promoted to Major General, and then he'll be the next head of the Mei Agency! Although it's not 100% certain, he's a top student from the 36th class of the Army War College. He induced the surrender of seven Kuomintang regimental-level units, provided precise location intelligence, and allowed bombers to kill three regimental-level officers and more than a dozen battalion-level officers of the New Fourth Army. He also captured the younger brother of Qian Mingyuan, the communications battalion commander of the Kuomintang Fifth War Zone, and obtained the Fifth War Zone's codebook. What a great achievement!"
Yan Shuo was startled. He had heard of Saeki Shinkai before, but he hadn't expected this person to have such a grand vision, and to be about to be promoted to major general and become the next head of the Mei Agency. This was a troublesome character.
"They found him dead!" Matsumoto Takuma exclaimed, suddenly realizing something. "Then, should we report to Commander Saeki tomorrow? After all, he's in charge of the Strategy Department now, and we're under his control. Reporting to him is the only logical course of action, and we won't offend anyone, right?"
"Yoshi!"
"hey-hey!"
"So, are you leaving get off work?"
"Off work! Let's go for drinks, Namiko Izakaya, it's on me!"
The conversation in the headphones gradually faded away, replaced by the sounds of tables and chairs being moved and footsteps.
Yan Shuo took off his headphones, clenched his fists, and a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes.
Bai Zhimin? It seems there's a traitor among them, which is why the Mei Agency has been targeting Wang Li's trail, and following the clues, they've traced it back to Meng Jia and himself.
Nobuyoshi Saeki, Kiyoshi Ogino, Kenji Doien... names swirled in his mind, the situation was more complicated than he had imagined.
He quickly put away his earphones and eavesdropping devices, making sure he hadn't left any traces, before pushing open the bathroom door and leaving.
The corridor was empty; Matsumoto Takuma and his two companions must have already left.
