Chapter 138 Similarity
Chapter 138 Similarity
Lupin stuffed the last book on the table into the box. He sat down and poured himself a glass of champagne.
“Then I promise you,” Lupin took a sip of champagne, savoring the joy of reuniting with his friend, “I will seriously consider the idea of finding a place together and being roommates.”
"Then let's go look at houses tomorrow!"
Sirius Black immediately seized the opportunity; he had come up with the brilliant idea the night before, but Remus hesitated.
—Let's find a new house together, so he, Remus, and Harry can have a new home together! Could there be a better idea?
However, he wasn't thinking about that. Sirius Black touched his nose, as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately swallowed it back.
Lupin glanced at Sirius, eliminating another option; it seemed he wasn't thinking about that either.
"Speaking of which, your food during your escape has been much better than I expected—" Lupin put down his glass, looked his old friend up and down, and teased, "I remember when the Daily Prophet published your picture, you looked like a living skeleton, you wouldn't even need a costume for Halloween, you could scare kids to tears... But you look much better now—"
Sirius Black seemed a little guilty; he avoided Lupin's gaze and pretended to be very interested in the Greendylo in the tank.
"His hair, though untrimmed for a long time, is smooth and shiny; his cheeks, though thin, give him a good complexion—" Lupin continued, still commenting on his old friend's appearance, "His nails are clean, and his skin is free of dirt—"
Merlin, it's been so long since we last met, he's forgotten how incredibly observant Remus is!
“Okay, buddy,” Sirius turned around, scratching his head, “I confess—”
“Ever since I escaped to the vicinity of Hogwarts, someone has been bringing me food,” Sirius said. “It’s a Gryffindor student…”
"A very, very kind and lovely girl, a good friend of the Weasley twins, and also gets along well with Harry. Thanks to her, I was able to get through this period; otherwise, I would have been catching squirrels and crickets in the Forbidden Forest..."
Lupin immediately understood who Sirius was referring to. The image of a beautiful dark-haired girl flashed through his mind, and looking at his old friend with similarly dark hair and gray eyes, he couldn't help but feel a little sentimental.
“I know this girl. She’s Lyra White in fifth grade. She’s a very good student and a popular girl, just like you were back in school.” Lupin smiled nostalgically. “I always felt a sense of familiarity when I saw her before, and then I realized that she reminded me a lot of you—”
“Oh, I’ve always had a strange fondness for Lyra,” Sirius said. “I think it’s because her hair and eye color are the same as mine—”
“Not only that,” Lupin said, “she also has this carefree attitude about everything—”
“She was nonchalant and uninhibited, seemingly interested in everything yet seemingly unable to truly interest anything. Although she was popular and had many friends, and was very close to the Weasley twins,” Lupin recalled, “there was always a faint sense of detachment about her, as if she were an outsider in this world, with a special kind of transcendence about her.”
"You gave off the same feeling back then—"
“…Perhaps it’s because,” Sirius Black paused, then downed his champagne in one gulp, “that I’m a Gryffindor born of Black…”
"So, what are you worried about? How do you repay this girl?" Lupin asked. "White is a good girl. You could ask Harry and the others and buy her something she likes."
“Actually…” Sirius Black hesitated, “I don’t really want her to know my true identity. I mean, Lyra initially thought I was a dog. She loves dogs and always wanted to adopt me…”
"Besides feeding me like a pet dog, she did other things that you'd do for a pet dog..."
"...For example?" Lupin asked curiously.
"...For example, she wanted to name me, groom me, and trim my nails," Sirius coughed, blushing slightly, which was uncharacteristically unusual. "She even wanted to give me pet supplements and even give me a bath—"
Lupin burst into laughter.
"I refused!" Sirius Black shouted in embarrassment, "I refused with all my might—"
"So you're embarrassed to let her know that you're the big black dog—" Lupin laughed for a while before sitting up straight again, "but you also really want to thank her for her help before, right?"
“Well, I haven’t decided yet—” Sirius Black paced around the room, “I haven’t figured out how to tell her. What if this makes her feel awkward too? I think I should keep it a secret until I figure out how to explain it…”
“Oh, right! Harry, Ron, and Hermione know I’m an Animagus,” Sirius Black suddenly stood up. “I should ask them to keep it a secret for me!”

On the train, Lyra and the twins, along with Harry, Ron, and Hermione, sat in a compartment playing Thunderbolt cards. This was the last bit of time before summer vacation when they could openly use magic, and the underage wizards cherished this opportunity.
Harry watched Lyra teaming up with George to fight Fred and secretly cheered himself on.
Last night, Sirius found him and told him that Lyra had mistaken Sirius for a big black dog, and that Lyra had been feeding Sirius and wanted to adopt him.
Sirius was grateful for Lyra's help and wanted to do something to thank her, such as giving her a gift or fulfilling her wish. However, Sirius was a little worried that the truth might embarrass Lyra.
The dog I've always liked and wanted to adopt was actually a living, breathing adult man, and at the time, Sirius was an Azkaban fugitive!
So Sirius wanted to ask him, Ron, and Hermione not to tell Lyra about this yet, and to tell her personally after he had figured out how to explain it to her.
Harry was also very grateful to Lyra for her help to Sirius. Without Lyra constantly bringing Sirius food, Sirius might have gone hungry forever.
"Just think about it, without Lyra's food, Sirius might have to rummage through garbage cans and eat tree bark and grass roots to fill his stomach..." Ron lamented last night.
Finally, Harry was also given another task by Sirius regarding Lyra.
