Chapter 672: Hanging by a thread

With a cold demeanor and expressionless face, Lilith approached her work with a professional attitude, diligently completing her tasks with seriousness and sincerity.

Upon hearing Li Wei’s joke, Lilith glanced at him.

Li Wei could immediately feel the chill of her gaze, sharp and piercing as it fell upon his skin, causing goosebumps to erupt uncontrollably, an air of menace about it.

Li Wei followed her gaze.

Lilith looked away with icy indifference, continuing to focus on her job as if nothing had happened.

It made one question whether the fleeting emotion betrayed in that momentary look had been an illusion.

...

Entering the medical room, Li Wei prepared for a detailed and comprehensive concussion test; at the same time, the team doctor needed to conduct other tests on Li Wei to ensure there were no hidden injuries he hadn’t noticed.

A glance up revealed the TV screen broadcasting the live game outside.

However, before Li Wei could take a closer look, the television was turned off—

It was Lilith.

After putting down the remote control, Lilith turned around to help check Li Wei’s physical condition. Seeing Li Wei’s helpless protest in his eyes, Lilith remained unmoved, as if she couldn’t grasp what he was implying.

Just as Li Wei was about to voice his protest, Lilith spoke up first.

“Prepare for the test.”

Li Wei’s impending retort had to be swallowed, and he obediently underwent the concussion test.

One test followed another, and although Li Wei’s mind was still preoccupied with the game, somewhat chaotic, he knew the order of priorities; honing the blade wouldn’t delay the work of cutting wood, so he forced himself to calm down, stay focused, and cooperate with the medical team as they proceeded with the tests.

Meanwhile, as his adrenaline began to cool slightly, Li Wei carefully monitored his body’s responses—

All was well.

Literally, he felt nothing out of ordinary, let alone pain or discomfort. Now, Li Wei could truly appreciate the power of the system cards:

One was a card that reduced the risk of injury; the other a Recovery Effect Doubling Card.

Thanks to the amplified effects of the cards, Li Wei felt no discomfort whatsoever, his vitality seemingly no different from before the impact.

And then.

Buzz, buzz, buzz.

The medical personnel surrounding Li Wei whispered among themselves, glancing at the test results, their eyes and words revealing an air of incredulity—

She understood the reasoning, yet when it really happened, she couldn’t help but feel panicked.

Take a deep breath, then another deep breath.

Lilith did not want anyone to see her vulnerability, but she could never have expected that a voice would come from behind her.

“Lilith.”

Her heart skipped a beat.

Lilith froze.

Always keeping her distance with calls of “Rosen, Rosen,” she had never crossed the line, but in a moment completely unforeseen, without any warning, that convention was broken, shattering all her expectations to the point where Lilith had no time to think and reflexively reacted.

With a turn, Lilith looked over and then saw Li Wei’s face brimming with a smile.

“I’m ready to continue the fight.”

Concise, clear, conviction and fighting spirit surged in his chest.

Having said that, Li Wei waved his hand, didn’t linger, turned, and left the medical room, heading straight for the field.

Lilith stood there, dazed, her reaction lagging far behind until she noticed her cheeks were slightly wet and her eyes were filled with tears.

So, had Li Wei seen all of her disheveled state just now?

Lilith held her breath involuntarily, frantically wiping the moisture off her cheeks, turning to look out the medical room window, peering from a small corner towards the exit of the players’ tunnel, waiting patiently.

The figure finally appeared.

Dressed in the red jersey number twenty-three, holding his helmet, he wasn’t in a rush or anxious, his steps were steady and resolute as he stepped onto the field once more. The vast sea of red flames at Arrowhead Stadium loomed ahead, and he lifted his chin slightly, walking forward with bold determination.

The entire stands, so magnificent.

A single figure, so small.

The contrast was striking, yet that small figure managed to make the grand and overwhelming red flames blur into the background, easily shouldering the entire atmosphere of the dense vapor.

The world lay prostrate at his feet.

Listen, the calls echoed in his ears.

“Li Wei. Li Wei. Li Wei.”

Once. And then again.

Like a spark that rapidly envelops the entire field in the blink of an eye, eventually transforming into a tremendous energy soaring above Arrowhead Stadium.
