CHAPTER 192: EPIC GUARDIAN

CHAPTER 192: EPIC GUARDIAN

Inside the protective sphere, Draven felt Genesis Codex pulse with awareness.""The Codex's voice manifested—distinct from the dragons, analytical and precise:"" ""Luminestra's protective sphere suggestion: approved and amplified. Trust established through observation cycle. Her knowledge of Life's Law applications: reliable. Permission granted for active recommendations.""

Draven understood. Luminestra had earned the Codex's trust over their journey together. She didn't command the artifact—she collaborated with it.

""Thank you,"" Luminestra said quietly through the Codex with warmth in her tone. ""I won't betray that trust.""

Adhivar's deeper voice resonated. ""Guardian and Crystal Dragon aligned. As it should be.""

Three separate entities. Three distinct voices. All working together.

The moment shattered.

The lava construct moved—fluid motion becoming explosive speed. Its humanoid form surged forward as molten body flowed like liquid fire and four-meter frame closed distance instantly.

Raziel roared while intercepting before it reached Draven's sphere.

Fire met fire.

The Magma Drake's claws slammed into the construct's molten chest—and sank through liquid surface, hitting something solid beneath. The construct's core—condensed lava essence, white-hot and impossibly dense.

The impact threw Raziel backward. He twisted mid-air as wings snapped open and he landed heavily on obsidian floor. Claws scraped stone while steadying himself.

The construct stood motionless. Waiting.

Then attacked again.

Combat erupted.

Raziel's tail swept low—obsidian-blade wings flaring for balance. The construct leaped as molten form compressed mid-air and landed behind him. Raziel spun while claws raked across its back—liquid fire spraying, reforming instantly.

Fire manipulation clashed. Raziel commanded the chamber's ambient heat while pulling it toward himself. The construct countered while drawing magma from walls—creating whips of molten rock that lashed forward.

Raziel dodged, breathed flame—superheated even by volcanic standards. The construct walked through it unfazed.

Physical combat resumed. Claw against molten limb. Speed against fluidity.

Even—for now.

---

The construct's molten fist shot forward—aimed at Raziel's exposed flank.

Genesis Codex reacted.

"""Protective barrier: deploying."""

Golden-green energy erupted between Raziel and the attack—Life's Law manifesting as translucent shield. The construct's fist slammed into the barrier and stopped cold. Molten rock splashed against golden light, unable to penetrate.

Raziel used the opening. Claws tore into the construct's arm while ripping through liquid exterior toward core. The construct jerked backward while reforming distance away.

Inside the sphere, Draven's hands pressed against the barrier while channeling Fragment energy instinctively. He couldn't fight—but the Codex could use his power to protect Raziel.

""Well done,"" Luminestra encouraged warmly. ""Keep channeling. We'll keep him alive.""

Adhivar's voice steadied him. ""Focus your will. Life's Law responds to intention.""

The construct's form shifted.

Its molten body condensed while becoming denser. The white-hot core at its chest pulsed brighter—lava essence concentrating, enhancing. Geometric patterns flickered across its surface—ancient Architect design visible beneath flowing magma.

It moved faster now.

Raziel barely dodged the next strike. The construct's fist cratered obsidian floor where he'd stood—stone exploding from impact force beyond normal Overlord strength.

"It's stronger than before," Raziel growled as chest glowed while he pulled more heat from environment. "Growing stronger."

The construct attacked relentlessly. Molten fists, magma whips, waves of superheated air. Each strike forced Raziel backward.

Genesis Codex's barriers flashed repeatedly—blocking attacks Raziel couldn't avoid, absorbing hits that would have crippled him.

But the construct was learning. Adapting. Finding gaps in defense.

Raziel's movements slowed—heat exhaustion despite elemental affinity. Effort showing.

The construct felt nothing. Tireless. Relentless.

A molten whip wrapped around Raziel's wing—searing through scales despite fire resistance. He roared in pain while tearing free, but the construct closed distance.

Genesis Codex threw barrier between them. The construct's fist shattered it—golden light fragmenting, Life's Law protection breaking under concentrated essence power.

"""Barrier integrity: compromised. Regenerating."""

The construct didn't wait. It slammed into Raziel—full body tackle, molten form engulfing him momentarily. Raziel's claws found core while stabbing deep, but the construct's mass pressed him into chamber wall.

Obsidian cracked. Raziel gasped—ribs compressed, breath stolen.

He channeled fire desperately while superheating his own body until the construct released him, reforming meters away.

Raziel stumbled forward with one wing damaged and breathing labored.

The construct stood undamaged. Waiting.

""Raziel,"" Luminestra's voice carried concern. ""You can't win by attrition.""

---

Inside the sphere, Draven's fists clenched helplessly.

Raziel was losing. The bond between them pulsed with strain—Draven felt every impact, every labored breath, every flash of pain through their connection.

"I can't just watch," Draven whispered desperately. "There has to be something—"

"""Fragment Bearer combat capability: insufficient for Epic-adjacent threat. Survival probability outside protective sphere: 0.003%. Recommendation: maintain position."""

The Codex's clinical assessment stung—but was truthful.

Adhivar's voice rumbled. ""Sometimes strength is knowing when not to act. Trust your bond.""

Draven's jaw clenched. Trusting felt like abandoning.

But Raziel needed the Codex's barriers more than Draven's presence.

Raziel changed tactics.

Instead of fighting defensively, he attacked all-out—sacrificing protection for offense. Claws tore at the construct's core repeatedly as wings battered its form and tail swept low to destabilize.

The construct adapted. Its molten arms solidified mid-strike—becoming obsidian-hard blades that cut rather than burned.

One blade caught Raziel's shoulder—cutting deep, black-scarlet blood spraying across obsidian floor.

Another sliced across his ribs—scales parting, wound gaping.

Genesis Codex barriers flashed desperately while blocking follow-up strikes, but couldn't prevent all damage.

Raziel's magma channels flickered—power wavering.

The construct pressed advantage. Both blade-arms swung simultaneously—

Codex barrier caught one.

The other pierced Raziel's side.

The Magma Drake screamed—sound echoing through chamber, raw and agonized.

Blood poured from the wound—molten orange mixing with black-scarlet, steaming where it hit stone.

Raziel collapsed to one knee as claws scraped obsidian for balance. His chest heaved while magma channels dimmed dangerously. The wound in his side smoked—construct's blade had burned even his fire-resistant flesh.

The construct stood over him. Molten form looming. White-hot core pulsing victoriously.

Raising both blade-arms.

"Raziel!" Draven's scream tore through the chamber.

Genesis Codex's barriers flared—but wavered. Too many hits. Too much damage absorbed. Protection failing.

The construct swung downward—

""No—"" Luminestra's voice broke with horror.

Raziel's eyes burned molten orange—defiant despite agony.

The blades descended.
