Chapter 172: Internal Strife
Chapter 172: Internal Strife
The Fang Clan's appearance was utterly distinct from the other clans.
Their bodies were covered in thick fur and bristling beards.
Especially the Fang Clan's acting chieftain tall and long-legged, his entire body's fur would stand on end when angered.
If Lot were to describe it, it was like a long-haired dog that had just fallen into water, been dried off with a towel, and then thoroughly blasted with a hairdryer.
Truly a spectacular sight.
[Fight, fight! Hurry up and start fighting! That's when the real show begins.]
Thankfully, Morgan wasn't here, and no one else could hear Lot's inner thoughts.
Otherwise, they'd have realized that this guy standing so solemnly beside the Fang Clan's acting chieftain was actually entertaining such wild ideas in his mind.
And the Fang Clan's acting chieftain's fury was understandable.
Today's battle wouldn't have ended so anticlimactically in the assault on Camelot's walls if the Wind Clan hadn't been dragging their feet.
Perhaps they'd have already broken through by now.
So, upon returning, he immediately stormed off to confront the Wind Clan's fairies in a rage.
Facing him, the Wind Clan's chieftain showed no fear.
Or rather
She couldn't afford to appear weak.
What she'd done wasn't wrong.
"I merely made the correct decision befitting the Wind Clan's chieftain," the Wind Clan's leader declared.hing:
This whole mess had started with Lot the Earth Clan's representative proposing siege engines.
Now, whether to attack or not no longer mattered.
What mattered was the fairy faction's leadership.
...
"The instigation is complete. Now we just watch them tear each other apart."
Having accomplished his task, Lot reported back to Morgan.
Every fairy was selfish to an extreme degree.
Getting them to submit was harder than getting Artoria to eat just three bowls of rice in one meal.
Not even Morgan the "Fairy from the Inner Sea of the Planet" could manage it.
Even Vivian, renowned among fairies, had failed to make them all bow.
So,
the only solution was to let the situation rot to its absolute worst before Morgan could emerge.
Let them fight
drain the fairies of their excess energy first.
Once the warmongers were dead, only the peace-loving would remain.
That would be ideal.
Hence, Lot's actions today.
Hearing his plan, Morgan wholeheartedly approved.
As expected of my Husband. Truly a dog's method.
She thought to herself.
Then, remembering her army, she asked Lot:
"By the way, what about our forces? They should be nearing Camelot soon. Should we have them attack directly?"
"No rush."
Lot raised a hand to stop her.
"If we push too hard, the fairies will unite against us. We mustn't force their hand."
"Mm."
Morgan nodded softly.
"I'll send word to Gawain and the others now."
"Right. Have them circle around to the fairies' rear."
...
Morgan's magecraft swiftly delivered the message to Galahad.
Of course, Morgan didn't mention her ambition to become the fairies' ruler.
After all, Fairy Morgan was also present.
Scheming against her was one thing voicing it aloud was another.
Upon receiving the letter, Galahad immediately summoned Gawain, Baobhan Sith, and Fairy Morgan.
"Alright, we're attacking from the rear?"
Gawain eagerly cracked his knuckles.
Finally, the battle was beginning.
His Excalibur Galatine thirsted for action.
"Mm."
Baobhan Sith also nodded with a smile.
She, too, was looking forward to it.
But then, realizing she'd just agreed with the detestable Gawain, she immediately turned her head away with a huff.
Seeing this, Galahad and Fairy Morgan nearly laughed.
Galahad quickly mediated:
"Alright, Gawain, Baobhan Sith no squabbling. The army moves now. Gawain, you'll..."
He then smoothly began deploying their forces.
Flanking the enemy from the rear wasn't new to them they'd done it countless times.
Even Galahad was familiar with the tactics.
His arrangements were flawless.
After hearing him out, Gawain and Baobhan Sith nodded in unison and prepared to act.
As they left, Fairy Morgan asked Galahad curiously:
"Little G, doesn't the Queen's plan feel... off somehow? I can't quite put my finger on it."
"I'm not sure either," Galahad admitted honestly.
"Well, we'll see when the time comes."
Unable to puzzle it out, Fairy Morgan dropped the matter.
"Mm."
Galahad nodded softly.
...
After sending the message, Morgan and Lot settled in to wait.
And the fairies did not disappoint Lot's expectations.
He'd thought it would take until the next day,
but that very night, open conflict erupted.
Yes.
Open conflict.
Unlike the daytime scuffle,
this nighttime brawl involved weapons.
Blades clashed, spells flew
it was a spectacular mess.
The next day, when Lot inquired why it had escalated so badly, he couldn't help but laugh.
In their struggle for power, the two clan leaders had fixated on one idea:
Decapitation strike.
Both groups had sneaked toward each other's camps with weapons
only to bump into each other midway.
The Wind Clan had wings, the Fang Clan were wolfmen they were impossible to mistake.
So, they'd fought on sight.
And once the fighting started, both sides called for reinforcements.
The brawl became a chaotic free-for-all.
By the next morning,
the conflict had only intensified.
Both sides were now fighting in earnest.
At the same time,
the other clans' goodwill toward these two factions plummeted to freezing point.
