The middle-aged man raised his hand, and one of the guards behind him stepped out and helped the young man out of the venue.
Then, the middle-aged man walked up to Lappland and spoke sincerely.
“I will discipline him properly when I get back, Miss Lappland. The Model family has no intention of antagonizing the Flaherst family.”
"Of course I believe you, Mr. Lockes. As the head of the Demore government department, you are very busy, so it is understandable that you might neglect your own children's education."
Lynch narrowed his eyes as he looked at the man named Lockes.
One of the three targets is the second-in-command of the government department.
Although Monger only revealed the names of three people, this does not mean that the rest of the Upper Nest Nobles, apart from those three, had no connection with Chaos.
Does this top official in the government department know that his subordinates are in contact with the Chaos Cult?
Or... was he also one of the participants?
Lynch became more vigilant. He felt that no one in this place could be trusted. Huron had controlled Badab for two hundred years, and given his ambition, it was impossible that he had only turned and corrupted Ququ and the other two.
"Where is Mr. Parker? As your deputy, I haven't seen him here."
"He's probably being held back by official duties. You know, Lord Huron has recently assigned us a very heavy task... You see, he's not coming now."
Lox pointed, and a thin man wearing glasses entered the hall with two guards.
The thin man saw Ryan, walked up, and bowed in greeting.
"Minister Lox, this is..."
"This is Miss Lappland, Miss Texas's older sister."
"So you are a lady from the Vlahos family. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Pike Saros, Deputy Minister of State."
Lin Qi looked at the guy in front of him, his brows furrowed slightly, but he quickly relaxed them so that no one else would notice the change.
"Horus."
He called out in his heart, and then a figure that only he could see appeared and hovered beside him.
Can you detect it?
"Well, yes."
Horus looked at Pike, his pale golden eyes filled with intense hatred and anger.
"Such a dense chaotic power... Although he has a human skin, I can tell that he is no longer human."
Chapter 17 Today was the happiest day of my life.
Lin Qi took a deep breath and calmed himself down.
"That colonel in the PDF, the old man with two soldiers behind him... does he have any chaotic aura?"
"...No, he doesn't have it, but we can't rule out the possibility that he was also corrupted by chaos."
"Let's leave that aside for now. What about the others present?"
"...No, only this guy with glasses has a strong aura of chaos. I can no longer see any human form in his soul."
"Okay, you can go back now. I'll let you know if I need anything."
"Yes, once we capture him, we can directly probe his memories. There's no need to worry about the chaotic corruption within him. With my father and I here, those things won't be able to trace back to you."
Horus returned to the Warp, while Lynch looked at Pike in front of him and began to ponder.
As a psionicist, he could subtly sense some abnormal psionic reactions around him, and the moment he saw Pike, he sensed the abnormal soul aura hidden beneath his skin.
Horus, being a warp being with only a soul, was even more sensitive to such an aura, and his statement could be said to have directly confirmed the composition of Pyke.
That was a true believer in Chaos, whose soul had been so corrupted that he could not be seen as human at all.
However, to Lynch's surprise, he originally thought that Hancock would be like Pike, only more concealed, which is why he did not notice him. However, Horus told him that there was no chaotic pollution aura on the other party.
Perhaps there's more to the story.
Well, now that we've identified our target, that Parker must have some serious issues. Instead of interrogating all three of them together, interrogating him alone might yield more unexpected information.
"The banquet has begun, Miss Lappland. If there are no further questions, we will take our leave. Once the banquet is completely over, I will place an order for a batch of porcelain with Vlahos on behalf of the Ministry of State Affairs."
"Hehe... Well then, thank you for your support, Mr. Ryan and Mr. Parker."
Lappland raised his glass in a toast, while Ryan and Pike left together to talk to the others present.
"That's the head of the finance department."
Following the direction Lappland indicated, Lynch saw a pot-bellied man talking to a noblewoman. After confirming that the man did not have any chaotic aura, he stopped paying attention to him.
"We will now focus our interrogation on that Parker."
"What's wrong? Did you notice something?"
“He has a different aura... an aura of chaos.”
Lappland's expression changed slightly, but she quickly returned to normal.
"Then what about those two people? And what about the others who were there?"
“They don’t have it, only that Parker has it. We’ll find an opportunity to lure him out alone later. I’ll deal with his guards and then probe his memories.”
Lynch spoke, and Lappland nodded, indicating that she understood.
The banquet officially began, and no more guests entered through the door. Instead, an elderly man with white hair, dressed in a black formal suit and befitting a butler, appeared at the entrance.
The old man cleared his throat, then faced the guests and shouted loudly.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Let us welcome the host of this banquet, John Shermer from the Badabshemer family!"
As the voice faded, a hunched figure slowly came into view outside the banquet hall.
This was an elderly man dressed in a white formal suit and draped in a bright red robe. His steps were unsteady, and he could only move forward with the help of two maids. Yet, it was this very old man who commanded the respect and awe of everyone present.
The reason is simple: as the head of the Shemer family, this old man named John is one of the highest-ranking mortals in the entire Demer Nest and even in Badab, aside from the Death Angels of the Star Claws.
People respect him not for himself, but for the power he represents.
The maid led John to the empty throne and then brought him a glass filled with pure water.
John nodded, and then the old man who had been calling out to the guests at the door walked up to him, holding a stemmed glass filled with blue liquor.
"Today is John Shermer's bicentennial birthday, a glorious day. Ladies and gentlemen, let us raise our glasses to pay the highest tribute to this venerable elder."
The old man raised his glass to John and spoke with great respect.
"Let us wish you good health and longevity."
John laughed heartily, raised his glass, and spoke his first words to everyone present.
"Today is the happiest day of my life."
After saying this, he drank the bottled water in his hand in one gulp, and a hearty smile appeared on his aged face.
The waiters carrying musical instruments then entered the venue, lined up in a corner, and began to play cheerful music.
As the music played, the men and women in the hall stepped forward and began to dance in the center of the hall. John, on the other hand, sat on the throne and watched with interest for a while before drowsily lowering his head, as if he were about to fall asleep.
The old butler called the maids and had them take John to his room to rest.
The atmosphere at the scene was very lively. Lin Qi looked at Pike, who was talking with a noble girl, stretched out a finger, and used his psionic energy to make the girl stumble.
"what!"
The girl gasped and fell directly towards Parker, spilling the wine from her glass onto Parker's collar.
Parker caught the girl, preventing her from falling to the ground. He then smiled and accepted her apology, took the white handkerchief she gave him, and, accompanied by his guards, headed towards the restrooms in the venue.
Lapland and Lynch looked at everything before them and knew their chance had come.
Now everyone's attention was focused on the dance floor. Parker had broken away from the crowd and was only accompanied by his two bodyguards. Furthermore, there were stalls in the restroom, making the timing and location of his attack perfect.
"Take this. I'll stay at the venue and contact you immediately if there's any emergency."
Lappland secretly slipped an earphone into Lynch's hand and whispered.
"Remember, safety first. If there are any problems, come back first. We can hijack the car or break into his mansion later. We don't necessarily have to get anything here."
Lin Qi nodded and accepted the headphones.
He then quietly released his arm and left Lappland's side. After using psionic energy to reduce his presence, he strode along the edge of the venue toward the restrooms.
Chapter 18 Blue Mongrel
Parker turned on the tap and watched the pure water flow out in a straight stream. He washed his hands first, and then slowly began to clean up the water stain in front of his collar.
The girl splashed him with a glass of amasec, a very popular drink in the upper class of the empire, which, apart from the original strong version, has many variations.
The color served to the guests at the banquet was a less intense shade, a light blue that looked very beautiful under the lights.
But when it comes to cleaning, it becomes very troublesome.
Seeing that he couldn't clean the small stain on his own, Pike shook his head helplessly, let out a long sigh, and began to call for his guards.
"Thor."
There was no response, which made the Deputy Minister of State, who was used to receiving immediate replies, frown. However, hearing the sound of rushing water echoing in his ears, he thought that his voice was too soft, so he called out again.
"Thor!"
His voice rose two decibels, and ten seconds after this shout, the response finally came belatedly.
"My lord, I am here. What are your orders?"
A monotonous voice rang out, devoid of any emotion or tone.
Parker didn't notice his subordinate's strange behavior. He took off his soiled clothes and placed them on the washbasin in front of him.
"Take off your shirt and give it to me. I can't go to see anyone in these dirty clothes."
Parker let out a long sigh of relief. At this point, this was all he could do. Fortunately, he had equipped his men with decent gear. Although wearing the other man's shirt was beneath their dignity, as long as no one told anyone, there wouldn't be any major problems.
But after a while, he still hadn't received the shirt his subordinate had handed him.
"Sol, what's wrong with you? It takes you so long to take off your clothes..."
Parker turned his head, but what he saw was not the panicked face of his subordinate caused by his reprimand, but a dark, deep-set gun barrel.
